I knew you first.
You are hers at the moment,
But when she finds out how well our lips fit together, it'll be a disappointment.
I knew you first.
It was accidental and wasn't supposed to occur.
Does she know how I now use your name as a slur?
I knew you first.
I bet you told her I meant nothing,
Even though I got two parts of your body with blood pumping.
I knew you first.
You sang to me in Spanish and kissed my forehead,
Every departure, a battle of wits distorted.
I knew you first.
You never let me leave, never hoping for tomorrow.
Even I knew, parting was such sweet sorrow.
I knew you first.
I missed your favorite songs
And how you constantly right my wrongs.
I knew you first.
She has one of those tattoos you hate.
Did you notice those too little too late?
I knew you first,
But she cares for you I overhear.
She wears her heart on her sleeve and a butterfly behind her ear.
I knew you first.
In ignoring each other eternally, we prevail.
Now oceans apart, I long for Moses and the Holy Grail.
I knew you first.
I live in the past, a different version of us.
It seems like we now lack anything to discuss.
I knew you first.
You argue a new persona is something you never desire.
The only consistency is you being a bad liar.
I knew you first.
You only have her because you could never have me.
Does she know that you're an absentee?
I knew you first.
Love between us was never spoken.
We used it as a means of control and not a token.
I knew you first.
I'm betting she doesn't understand your sarcasm.
What is there left to talk about with that chasm?
I knew you first.
I don't doubt she's a nice person.
Though, nice is a word to which I have an aversion.
I knew you first.
I wonder if she cries when she laughs,
Or knows that you secretly enjoy when I speak in paragraphs.
I knew you first.
She waits for you to show true devotion.
Do her eyes lock with yours like mine do with the same emotion?
I knew you first.
You have each other like we never did, for now.
But she can't disallow...
That I knew you first.
