Omertà, Aufiero's Return

Chapter 1

6 years have passed and Aufiero is coming back today. I'm nervous and excited. I can't wait for him to see Noni. Aufiero chose the name. I told him it sounded Hawaiin but he didn't care. He said if he ever had a son, he would name him Noni. I went along with it though. Noni is pretty excited to meet his dad. He asks about him everyday. It got hard explaining to him why his dad wasn't around but the wait is over now.

Noni ran into my room and jumped on the bed. "Mommy, mommy, mommy, is it time to get daddy yet?"He asked. I smiled. "Nonna is going to get him and we're gonna have dinner with daddy at her house"

"I can't wait to see daddy. I'm gonna show him my room. It's gonna be so cool"

"Your dad can't wait to see you too"

"He said that?"

I nodded. "Daddy sounds weird on the phone mommy"

"He has an accent. Kinda like your nonna's"

"Oh" I smiled and kissed his forehead. "Mommy stop. You said I'm a big boy now"

"You are but that doesn't mean I can't give you kisses"

He smiled. "Fineee" Noni jumped off of the bed and went into the room. Aufiero and Noni have only seen each other a couple times. Noni was only a baby when they saw each other. He said he didn't want him to have memories of visiting his dad in jail. They talked on the phone a lot and I sent Aufiero pictures of Noni all the time. Noni looks exactly like a young Aufiero except, his hair is curlier than Aufiero's. My phone vibrated with a text from Eva, Aufiero's mom.

'He's here. Come on over. He's anxious to see you guys'

"NONI"I yelled. He came sprinting into the room. "Your dad is here" He smiled from ear to ear. "Yus yus yus" I pulled him into my lap. "Come here, let me fix your collar" He stood in front of me as I flipped his collar down. His smile still remained on his face. "Are you ready to see daddy?" I nodded. "Of course. I miss your dad a lot"

"Let me fix your hair mommy"He said. He pushed my hair behind my ear. "Daddy won't be able to see your face if your hair is in the way" I smiled and grabbed his hand. "Let's go"

The ride didn't take very long. We pulled up in the driveway and a smile appeared on my face. My heart is beating very quickly too. Noni grabbed my hand. "Ready mommy?" I nodded. "Are you ready?" His grin got bigger. "YUP!"

Noni knocked on the door and Eva opened it. He ran inside. "Where's my dad?!?!?" He shouted. "He's in the bathroom. He'll be out in a second"Uncle Luca said. I took a deep breath. Finostadi appeared out of the kitchen. He smirked. "Why so nervous?" I laughed. "I'm not nervous" He laughed too. "Then why are your hands shaking" I looked down and sure enough, my hands were shaking rapidly. He grabbed my hands. "Calm down."He said before taking a seat on the couch. Noni stood next to uncle Luca. He glanced back at me.

"DAD!"He screamed. Running, he jumped into Aufiero's arms. My breath hitched as Aufiero looked at me. His hair is longer but he still has a little bit of curlyness to it. It's brushed back into a ponytail, kinda how Maso used to wear his hair. He has a full beard too. His body is buffer. He let Noni go and smiled at him. "You're so big"He says. "Yup, I'm a big boy now"Noni said looking up to him. Aufiero's smile grew wider. And it looked like a tear rolled down his cheek. He sniffed. Yup, he's definetly crying. Aufiero leaned down and kissed Noni's cheek. "I know I missed 6 years of your life but I love you so much Noni"He says. "I love you too dad" Noni whispered something in his ear and he smiled at me.

Aufiero motioned for me to come to him. I didn't hesitate to walk over to them. He stood up and smiled at me. "I like what you've done with your hair. It's nice"He says. "Noni suggested that I cut it."I said. He looked down at Noni nad high fived him. Noni looks extremely happy. Maybe the happiest I've ever seen him. Aufiero grabs my hand and toys with my ring. Guilt rushes over me. Before I knew it, his arms were around my waist hugging me. "God, I love you"He whispers. "I love you too" He let me go and picked up Noni. "We can finally be a family now"Noni said. We smiled. "Yeah, a family"Aufiero agreed.
