ARCHER POV
I was called to the palace to talk to the queen and king about some important matter that was troubling them.
I wonder what they want to talk to me about that they couldn't put it in a letter? I don't want to meet these uptight pricks!
I arrived at the castle at about lunchtime and one of the guards led me to the throne room, where the king and king were waiting for me. Once the king saw me he got up and started walking towards me.
"Archer there you are," the king said while guiding me out of the throne room. "Have I ever told you that you are one of my favorite and most loyal rulers?"
"Uh, no I don't think so," I said while looking at the king with a skeptical look. "What is this all about?"
"Nothing I just wanted to know how you are and how everything is going for you in the land I allowed you to roll over?" the king asked while putting his arm over my shoulder.
"It's going well," I say while looking at him with the same skeptical look as before. "But I have a feeling that that's not why I'm here is it?"
"No, my boy it's not," the king said before taking his arm off my shoulder. "I couldn't tell you this in a letter because I feel like you need to be here in person for what I have to tell you."
"What is it?" I asked as I felt my heart sink in my stomach.
HE BETTER NOT TAKE AWAY MY POWER OR I WILL KILL THIS TYRANT!
"My youngest daughter has yet to be married and I wish to see her wed before I die," the king started to explain as he avoided eye contact with me. "I didn't want her to get married to someone unworthy of her so I thought you should be the one to marry her you are the best person after all."
"What, but why me, I'm just a Duke," I said hurriedly. "I'm not royalty!"
I don't want to marry a spoiled princess!
"That's true," the king sighed before looking at me with a hopeful smile on his face. "I'm going to tell you the truth, almost all of the princes from our neighboring kingdoms are already married to one of my kids and I don't want a prince from one of our rival kingdoms to marry my youngest baby and treat her horribly so that's why I've asked you to come here and meet her so you two can get married since I put all my trust in you."
"I've never even met your daughter," I muttered while still in shock. "When will I meet her?"
"Does tonight at dinner sound good?" the king asked while looking at me with a smile.
