Following Amrit's murder, the other students were promptly evacuated, sent away to safety whilst Jake and his remaining friends were forced to remain on campus.
"It's the best way of finding whoever is doing this." Officer Fisk said as the four students sat before him, "It's plain to see it's someone with a grudge against all of you, and since none of you will tell us anything, we're all out of options."
Brody spoke up, "You could get us out of here. We're less likely to get murdered that way."
"That way, we won't find out who's doing this." Fisk stated, "Don't you want to find out who killed your sibling?"
Brody glared at him angrily, "Sister, and of course I do. But I feel like there's better ways than having us wait about until someone else dies."
"Well, it's a good thing you don't work in law enforcement, isn't it?" Fisk snarked in reply, "Right, all of you are to remain in this dorm room unless it's an emergency. On campus, we have eight of our officers, the Dean and Professor Petrović, so if anything does happen, you can report it to them and they'll call me back in, you got that?"
Willa replied, "Got it."
"Glad to see one of you is capable of listening." Fisk commented, "I'm headed back to the station, but remember, don't take any unnecessary risks."
With that, he was gone, leaving the four friends together in Jake and Willa's dorm — Brody walked over to the window to watch as the last bus carrying students departed, Maxwell sitting at the back and sparing a final glance up at his former friend's window.
"I can't believe Amrit's gone." Willa's voice creaked, "We're being picked off one-by-one here, I'm terrified."
Jake wanted to respond but was still too shaken up, lying in the curve of Raleigh's arm, the other man stroking his hip comfortingly. His back, head and leg still ached from the various injuries he'd revived during the attack, but what was worse was the mental, emotional scarring from being attacked.
As if sensing his boyfriend's torment, Raleigh nuzzled the top of his head, linking their fingers together, "They'll find whoever's doing it."
"Don't be naive." Brody replied, "They'll do fuck all 'til we're dead."
Willa glared, "Brody."
"You I'm being realistic." he threw himself down on the bed, "Everyone's fucking dying and we've not a fucking clue who's doing this."
Jake finally spoke, "That's not true." He unlinked himself from Raleigh and scooted over to his jacket, which was dumped unceremoniously on the floor with a serrated slash still in the fabric as he pulled out the photographs, "These belonged to Eilidh."
Brody quickly snatched the photographs from him, sorting through them until he found the one with Laura and Petrović, "I— I don't understand."
"Let me—" Willa began, but as she saw the image, her breath shuttered and her eyes filled with tears, "Oh, my God."
Jake reached out to squeeze her hand, "I'm sorry, Will."
"I don't know why I'm so surprised." she admitted, sniffling as the tears spilled over.
Brody looked up at her, confused, "What are you talking about?"
Her face crumpled, shame filling her voice, "Petrović, he— he and I—"
"I always had a bad feeling about him, even back when he was at our school. I'd heard rumours." Brody stated, "But I never thought you'd..."
Her wet eyes snapped up, "I'd... what? Be so stupid? So careless? Don't you think I know that? I've been telling myself that ever since Manny died."
