The pending files caused Akash to stay till late night in his office. While he was busy with work, Banu was patiently waiting for his arrival. She walked to and fro while glancing at the door. Her phone soon received a message informing her of his late arrival.
Out of boredom, she took a book and started flipping a few pages. But she could not involve in the book. She wandered in the house looking for something interesting to do until Akash returns. When her feet brought her in front of Kailash's room, she stood there fidgeting with her fingers.
A memory popped in her mind in which her father was working for an critical case with her beside paiting on the white board. She mistakenly dropped some paint on the desk and looked apologetically at her father. Though he became angry due to being distracted, he could not help but smile at his daughter who tried to wipe it with her small hands.
He left the papers on the desk with a weight on it and rinsed her hands in water. Then, he took a towel and dried her hands.
'You have to stay here and play till I complete my work. Will my daughter listen to it?" he asked her and continued his work after she nodded with a smile.
Banu felt her heart long for the warmth in his eyes and opened the door wide for her to enter. Her fingers traced all the organized files and legal books in his library. His wall carried a single picture of him and Banu standing in a park.
When she sat on the bed, she remembered the plenty of times she slept on the bed as he analyzed his case files. She always liked to watch him work with a crease in his brows. He was the only person there for her while growing up.
From there, she moved near the bedside cabinet and tried to pull the drawer out. There were many small items arranged in an order. She found her school ID card in a corner. Given the hairstyle and uniform, she saw herself posing in an innocent way in the picture.
She kept the things in the same order and closed the drawer. Moving into the second drawer, she was surprised to see that it was locked. Kailash never secured any stuff apart from the financial documents in his cupboard. So, she began to search for any keys in the room. None of the keys she found helped her unlock the drawer.
She turned on the AC in the room and lied down on the bed. Suddenly, she got reminded of the days when his father used to hide her toy on the top surface of the cupboard. She placed the chair near the cupboard and climbed on it. Then, she lifted her toes and searched for the key. When her fingers got hold of the key, her face beamed in victory.
She jumped from the chair with excitement and stumbled on the floor. Her right foot got twisted causing her to scream in pain. Footsteps echoed in the living room followed by the entry of Akash.
Without wasting a second, he lifted her off the ground and placed her gently on the bed. Banu could see the concern in his eyes making her heart beat rise.
