Peter couldn't stop his hands shaking. He'd jammed them into his pockets trying to hide his worry, but now it just looked like his jacket was shaking too. He stood near the edge of the wall, inching closer and closer to Raven, who was politely ignoring the shuffling that had been approaching her for five minutes."Did you know him?," Peter blurted out, making Raven finally turn to face him. "Magneto, I mean."
She looked at him confused, wondering exactly what Peter's deal was. All she knew about him was what Jennifer had told her, and he was way to anxious for this to be a casual conversation. "I used to," she answered, returning her gaze to the wall. "I'm not so sure anymore."
"What was he like?," was Peter's follow up question. He glanced back to Jennifer, who had gotten up at the same time as him and was now talking with Hank and Moira at the other side of the room, probably about something more important. "I mean, before everything with his family. Jennifer tells me things sometimes but she's a bit biased, what with their relationship. But I don't know, is she right? Or was he... like they say he was? Was he a bad guy?"
"No. I mean, yeah. He was...," Raven shook her head, unsure of her answer. She knew that he was, knew that his methods were cruel, and yet, just like Jennifer, she couldn't help but defend the guy who had tried to kill her ten years ago, and taught her of her true potential ten years prior to that. "Why do you care so much? Did you see his speech on TV or something?"
"Yeah, but...," he paused for a second, unsure if he was going to go ahead with this. "He's my father."
Ravens head snapped around in an instant. "What?!?"
"- He and my mom, they..." he made an image with his fingers to save him having to say they did it.
Raven wasn't all too amused with the crude gesture, far too busy trying to wrap her head around the new information. "- Yeah, I know. But...Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Yeah, yeah. He left my mom before I was born. I met him 10 years back, before the whole Washington thing, but I didn't know it was him. By the time I figured it out, it was too late, you know? Then a few years back we went to visit him, but it felt wrong to be like, hey, I'm your son, when he had a new family. And I didn't want to ruin that for Jennifer, he's pretty much her only parent.
"Then, this week I saw him on TV. And it I couldn't help but wonder, if things would be different if he knew? If he knew he had more family, would it stop him being the bad guy, over and over again?"
"So you're going to tell him?"
Peter shrugged. "I think so, I mean what's the worst that can happen? He destroys the world? Besides, every time I chicken out before I can say anything."
Raven didn't laugh at the joke, but she offered a sympathetic smile, which was just as good. "Let's hope not this time."
"Yeah. Seriously," he muttered, mostly to himself. He had to tell his father who he was, had to take the weight off of himself. Even if it was all for nought. He was going to do it, and this time, he wouldn't leave it too late.
He was about to ask Raven another question, if she thought it was a good idea to tell Erik, or if she was just trying to be supportive to be nice. Before he could say another word though, he heard a voice.
"Hear me, inhabitants of the world."
Immediately they all glanced around the room, trying to find the source of the sound. It didn't come from any of the five of them, and it wasn't coming through the speaker system. Almost simultaneously, they all recognised the voice - it was Charles.
