That look

I heard the gunshot, the men dropped me on the floor and left. That's the last thing I remember. I woke up in an ambulance and saw Derek with me.

I blinked a couple times, "What the hell happened?" I asked in a raspy voice.

He immediately stood up and grabbed my hand, "Maya, thank god."

"How's JJ?" I asked.

"I don't know," he said quietly.

"What do you mean you don't know? Where is Jennifer?" I asked again.

"They wouldn't tell me anything," he said, "I'm sure she's fine."

"She didn't look fine the last time I saw her. What about Emily?" I asked, "Derek who got shot?" I asked raising my voice.

He just shook his head. It was clear he didn't know anything, or he was just pretending not to know. I couldn't tell because my perception was a little out of it right now and I couldn't really profile him.

"I didn't get a chance to apologize to her," I whispered.

"Maybe you should start thinking before speaking then," he said.

I turned my head to look at him, "What?"

"Your words shoot to kill when you're mad, Maya," he said.

"Yeah and I have lot of regrets about that, you don't need to remind me," I said, "Also stop using the words shoot and kill."

He just nodded and I felt myself pass out again. Everything went dark and quiet. Last thing I heard was Derek yelling.

"Doc, I think she's crashing out!" He yelled.

After that I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything. Just darkness. I woke up in a hospital room. Blinding lights and noise that made me feel like my head was gonna explode.

I looked around my room and didn't see anyone so I sat up, drank a cup of water and got out of bed. I checked myself in the mirror and saw a lot of bruises and burns, but there weren't any stitches meaning I didn't have surgery so no one could tell me I needed to rest.

I walked around asking every doctor and nurse I found about JJ, but no one knew anything so I found Emily's room and went there. I walked in and sat in a chair next to her bed.

"How are you?" I asked.

She looked at me with a weird look on her face, "Good, you?"

I nodded, "Good."

"Are we both lying or is it just me?" She asked.

I chuckled and nodded, "We are. I mean I'm bruised up a little and it hurts, but other than that I'm fine."

"Me too. How's JJ?" She asked.

I leaned back in my chair, "No idea. No one tells me anything. Hell I don't even know if she made it out of there," I said looking at the ceiling to prevent the tears from brimming in my eyes.

"When I called your name, just before the gunshot? She was okay, still awake," she said, "I don't know who got shot, but it wasn't us."

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, "Thank god. I can't stay here, I wanna get out."

"And what? Go home?" She asked.

I shrugged, "Anywhere. I wanna go anywhere, just not home," I said, "I can't go home without her."

I sat there for another hour before I finally got a call from Hotch about JJ and I immediately went to talk to him.

He told me she was okay and the baby was okay too. He wanted me to be the one to tell her, but he also wanted to talk to me. Which I wasn't thrilled about.
