This story is by Yaminaecat on ao3 Summary:
Alya is not sure what to think about the sudden interest of certain animals in two of her best friends.
...and she's definitely in denial.
Like so much in denial. It started with a single ladybug. But back then, no one noticed its presence. Or rather no one really acknowledged it until much later. The school was almost right next to the park. It was normal that some insects found their way into the classroom. It was even normal that some of them attached themselves to one of the students, when they smelled of sweets and flowers. So it wasn't really a surprise when a ladybug sat in Marinette's hair as she came in, because as a baker's daughter, she always smelled of the sweets her parents made.
Alya didn't think much of it, only commenting on how the small bug probably sensed her friend's clumsiness and tried to help her with a little luck. That was that. No-one gave it any more attention.
...well, until that day.
Alya was writing down notes for the video she'd gotten from the latest Akuma attack, while waiting for afternoon classes to begin. Most of her classmates were already there happily chatting along. Only a certain bluenette and blond were still missing, as usual. Seriously, if Alya didn't know how Marinette struggled to get even a complete sentence out in front of Adrien, she'd think those two hid somewhere to secretly snuggle up with each other.
As it was, it took the first warning bell for Adrien to show up. He stumbled into the room, shutting the door right behind him and leaning against it, heaving for breath as if he'd run the whole way over from the Eiffel Tower.
“Dude!” Nino laughed “You look like you've seen a ghost.”
“Worse!” Adrien turned wide eyes to his best friend. “I'm being followed!”
That got everyone's attention. Alya put her phone aside, standing up to join her boyfriend, with the model.
“The fangirls again? I thought Mr. Damocles banned them from entering the school.”
“No! Those I could handle! But I can't seem to get away from these. They're just too fast!”
Well, Alya was a reporter. As such, her interest was picked. Time to investigate!
Shoving the two boys aside to access the entrance and ignoring the desperate “No! Don't!”, she opened the door a few centimeters and peeked outside. Nothing. Then there was a soft 'Mrmp!' and her gaze traveled to the ground. A fluffy white kitten with adoring green eyes was looking up at her. Next to it she could just make out a a gray pair of paws and a long, black tail swishing around.
She closed the door again, turned around and asked in her serious voice, because she really wasn't sure if it was true. “Sunshine, are you by any chance afraid of cats?”
The cough Nino let out after that sounded suspiciously like suppressed laughter.
“What? No!” Adrien looked a little confused “Why should I be?”
Alya gestured vaguely at the door behind him, which, she guessed, was keeping out a horde of meowing furballs. She could even hear them, now that she was paying attention to it.
