I sit on the bench, watching.
That's all I can do these days. No confidence and social anxiety make me exhausted.
Why did I even sign up for this camp?My eyes go over the others, carefree and happy in their little bubbles. Why can't I be like them? Was there something wrong with me? Did I look too gloomy? I tried not to be.
I smiled, I tried to be friendly, yet I remained a wallflower. What was I doing wrong?
I know I'm not athletic, or pretty, but I swear, I could be a good friend. Then why, why was the only one sitting alone?
Why am I the only one who looks so out of place? So abnormal?
"You!" An unfamiliar voice calls out and I look up. "You're adopted."
I scoff at her words. What? Who even is she?
"What?" I ask and she grins.
"I'm Kavya Arora. 16. You're now my adopted introvert. Don't worry, you just have to keep me company. I'll do all the talking," she elaborates and I frown. What the hell is this?
Suddenly she grabs my arm and pulls me up, dragging me towards a group of people.
"Hey guys! Meet my new best friend. Her name is..." Her face turns red in embarrassment and she turns to me with wide eyes.
"What's your name dude?" She whispers and I stare at her in disbelief. "Vanya."
"Vanya," she turns around, the bright grin brightening her features again.
"Kavya, are you bullying another kid? Did you even ask her permission before picking her up? It's a human, not a puppy. You can't drag people around without their permission." Kavya pouted, wrapping me in a hug.
"But she's like a puppy. Look at those eyes and these chubby cheeks. She's my best friend and that's it. I'm not leaving her. I'm not leaving you ever Vanya, you hear me?" She mumbled and something in my heart fluttered.
