05:24 Pm, 2 March, Sharma Sadam, B block, Green Park Extension, New Delhi - South, Delhi NCR

"Vani, stop scrolling on your phone! We're getting late," Mumma slaps the phone out of my hand, the smut scene I was reading, disappearing along with the screen.

"Mummy yaar!" I groan, urging another slap from her. 

"Don't yaar me! Your engagement starts in an hour and you're still sitting in front of your phone? Are you an idiot?" She hisses, and I purse my lips, side-eyeing Dravya and Kavya who snicker at her insults.

"Look at these poor kids," she points to the two, who straighten their backs. "They've been helping around with everything since the morning and you!" She scoffs. "Shameless."

"Yeah, because they're in for free food," I grumble as I pick up my phone.

It has been two weeks since our date. Two weeks since the devil aka Mahir Oberoi made my heart race pathetically. Two weeks since I talked to him. 

His words that day, and his actions evoked some type of emotions, but they also made me scared of myself. How will I fulfil this deal of ours if continue to act like this, even if it's just playing pretend? How am I supposed to tell this stupid heart of mine that love never lasts? And even if it does, I'm not made for it.

Two weeks away from him gave me a reality check. Mahir was out of bounds. He was my boss, my contract partner and a man with a lover. And as much as I hated how my heart reacted when he was close, I could never meet myself in the eyes if I came in between a relationship, perfect or not.

Mahir and I might work at the same company under the same roof but we occasionally saw each other in the past few weeks. It wasn't a fault on my part, since the wedding was due this month, Mahir was on everyone's tails to complete the ongoing projects. And for that, Mr Grump had set strict deadlines that had everyone on their heels.

Exhibit A of it was that my leave request wasn't yet approved.
