Chapter 14 - La Fanciulla Caduta

Tonitrus had all of his energies focused on his hunt. He could still see Kairi's energy in the distance, which motivated him to keep going, despite nothing emerging from the distant sea.
He even witnessed a strong thunderstorm that hit the ocean, but all he did in response was slightly reposition his steering.
"The darkness in your heart is forcing you to run away... But it's not going to work. I'll be there.", he said, possibly aimed at her.

He would finally see a surface rise from the horizon, that being his hometown of Toontown. Disappointingly, the energy he felt was still very distant. It looked like Kairi was still far from his reach.
Even worse, it wasn't the only thing he had to worry about, as even his one way of traversing to the sea was starting to have issues. Not too far away from the city, the blonde boy could hear a very bad noise emerge from his back.
"Not the engine... Damn it. I have no choice but to have it checked. Might be dangerous to continue like this.", he said.

The boat could still continue going, but he could easily notice its speed had massively decreased, making it just barely able to reach Toontown before it could stop working entirely.

Once he got there, he could fortunately see a nearby shipyard, so he used the remaining power of the boat's engine to get there, in hopes of finding someone who could help him.

He left the boat in a way that it wouldn't obstruct the way for other ships, and once he dismounted from it, he reached out to the closest mechanic he could find in the area. He managed to find a bearded man who seemed to be working on another respiration process. He cautiously reached out to him, uncertain if he'd be willing to listen..
"Uhm... Hello. Is it a problem if I ask for something?", asked the blonde boy.
The mechanic then turned off the welder he had in his hands and turned his head towards him, saying:
"Sure. Just know that my work has piled up a lot recently, so I can't do much unless it's an emergency."
"It is, sort of. I need to get somewhere urgently, but something must have happened a few hundreds of meters before I stopped here. Can you take a look at it?"
"That I can do. Shouldn't take long to notice stuff that's wrong."

He then gave a look at it, and knew immediately there was a huge problem.

"I'm really sorry, boy... But I can't have that fixed in the time that you have. The engine has been worn to its limit, and the propeller could fly off at any point.", replied the mechanic.

"A friend of mine desperately needs me... But you did what you could. And I still want to thank you for that. I'll just need to find another way to get there.", replied Tonitrus, disappointed but still showing a smile.

Then a third voice joined the two and was making its way here, saying:

"You already found that."

Tonitrus immediately recognized the masked duck, once he could see him..

"... PK!? What are you doing here?"

"I should be the one asking that. Aren't you meant to be with your fellow companions? Where are they?", he asked.

The blonde boy started to stutter upon hearing that question, so he asked if the two could move out of the harbor to let the mechanic do his job. Once they were in a more appropriate place, he gave PK the answer he asked.

"They couldn't go. One side had their energies stripped thanks to Kairi, and the other... I left behind, as I was too blinded by rage and decided to hunt her down on my own."

PK sighed at his words, before then saying:

"What you did was not very brave, but I can understand. It's very difficult to be rational when you're hit by such extreme emotions. However, you still need someone's aid if you want to put an end to all the suffering this girl has committed. Given all three of us have a common goal, I'd say you're more than welcome to come with us.".
