New Beginings
When Y/n arrived home, the house had been quiet. She stepped inside, the familiar scent of home enveloping her as she took off her shoes and set her bag down by the door. Her father had been in the living room, reading a book. He looked up as she entered, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Hey, Dad," she greeted.
"Welcome home, bug," he responded, closing his book and standing up. "How was your day?"
She made her way to the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water. "Today was tough, but I made some new friends and I had some plans for the weekend. Oh! Guess what, Mei got in as well!"
"That's great news!" he exclaimed, following her into the kitchen. "I knew you two would make it in. What kind of plans did you have?"
She leaned against the counter, her tiredness evident. "We were going to the mall. There was a new arcade we wanted to check out. It should be fun and a good way to relax after all the training."
Her father nodded. "Sounds like a lot of fun. You deserved it after working so hard, and Mei getting in-that's fantastic. I'm sure she'll do great too."
She smiled, feeling more at ease. "Yeah, it was nice to have a familiar face around. We had a bunch of exercises today. I was exhausted."
Her father walked over, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I was proud of you for pushing through," he said. "It wasn't easy, but you were getting stronger every day."
She smiled at his words, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Dad. I just wished Mom had been here to see it." His expression softened.
"She would have been incredibly proud of you, bug, just like I am." They shared a quiet moment, their warmth providing comfort in the otherwise empty house. After a while, she headed to her room to change into more comfortable clothes and start on her homework.
Later, they had dinner, their conversation light and filled with the day's highlights. They talked and laughed together, creating a comforting rhythm in their otherwise quiet home. Her father listened intently as she described her day, asking questions and offering advice. "So, what was the hardest part of the day?" he asked, cutting into his food.
"Probably the sprints," she replied. "You know my quirk didn't help much with physical stuff, so I needed to work on that. But the others were supportive."
He nodded. "It's good that you were making friends who could push you and support you. That's important." As the evening wound down, she headed to her room to get some rest, but before she went to bed, she checked her phone for messages. She found a group chat with her new friends, already buzzing with excitement about their weekend plans. Smiling, she typed a quick reply, feeling a sense of belonging she hadn't felt in a long time.
As she laid back on her bed, her mind drifted to the events of the day. Just as she was ready to go to sleep, her phone started to buzz to the song "Uptown Funk." She turned to her phone to see that Mei was ringing her, so she answered. "Mei?.." she said tiredly.
"Hey, girl! Were you doing anything this weekend? A new arcade just opened in the mall, and you know video games are our jam, so I wanted to see if you wanted to go together," Mei replied excitedly, hoping they could set some records on the games.
"Well, I was going with some of the girls I'd made friends with. I can ask if you can come too!" She rushed to the group chat to ask the girls.

Thanks, guys! And Mina, I can't wait to meet the girls from your class. Night, girls!"Hey, Mei, are you still there?" she asked, wondering if Mei had ended the call.
"Yeah, I'm still here!" Mei replied loudly as she focused on getting a screw tightened on her new gadget.
"Okay, so the girls said it was okay for you to come. We're meeting outside UA's main gate at noon on Saturday, okay?"
"Okay! I'll meet you there. See you tomorrow!" Mei then left the call, letting Y/n do her nighttime skincare before heading downstairs to kiss her dad goodnight, then returning to bed to finally sleep. With a final glance at the glowing screen of her phone, Y/n closed her eyes and fell asleep.
