The First Duel
The atmosphere in the stadium shifted as the cavalry battle concluded, they were given a lunch break to come up with duel stratagies, all she knew is that she was against Aoyama.
Y/n and her new found friends gathered in the designated area, catching their breath and nursing the remnants of adrenaline from the previous round. Despite their loss in the cavalry battle, spirits were high, and discussions about strategy for the next round filled the air.
"Hey, Y/n!" Kendou called, her voice breaking through the chatter. "You ready for your match? I think you've got this in the bag!"
Y/n forced a grin, trying to mask her nerves. "I hope so. Aoyama's got some flashy moves, but I'll do my best to keep my cool."
After a quick briefing about the upcoming one-on-one battles, the students were granted a short lunch break to recharge. Y/n found a spot on the grass with her classmates, savoring a bento box that her dad had prepared that morning. The taste of homemade food brought a sense of comfort, momentarily easing her nerves.
As they ate, Y/n glanced over at Bakugo, who was deep in conversation with Kirishima and Sero, his fierce determination still evident even during lunch. A small smile crept onto her face as she listened to their banter. "Hey, how do you think you'll handle Aoyama?" Sero asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
Y/n shrugged, swallowing a bite of rice. "I'll just have to keep my distance and dodge his lasers. But I've been practicing my strategy with my quirk, so hopefully that'll give me an advantage ."
"You'll be fine! Just remember to use your quirk wisely," Kendou chimed in, her enthusiasm infectious. "And don't forget to take care of yourself-overdoing it can really take a toll."
The reminder hit home, and Y/n nodded. "I'll keep that in mind. I just need to stay focused and not get carried away." As they finished their lunch, the mood shifted back to excitement, the students buzzing about the upcoming matches. Y/n felt her heart rate quicken as the announcer's voice blared over the speakers, signaling the start of the one-on-one battles.
"Attention, everyone! It's time for the one-on-one battles! First up, Y/n L/n from Class 1-B versus Yuga Aoyama from Class 1-A!"
Y/n stepped into the arena, feeling the weight of the crowd's gaze on her. Aoyama, with his signature sparkly flair and confident demeanor, stood opposite her, a dazzling grin on his face as he adjusted his belt. "Prepare to be dazzled, Y/n!" Aoyama exclaimed, striking a dramatic pose.
She couldn't help but chuckle at his flair, feeling the tension ease just a bit. "Bring it on, Aoyama!" As the signal to start the match blared, Aoyama immediately activated his quirk, aiming his naval laser at her with a brilliant flash of light. Y/n was quick on her feet, using her agility to dodge to the side. The beam seared through the air, narrowly missing her.
"Nice try!" she called out, her heart racing as she calculated her next move. Aoyama's quirk was powerful but had a limited range, and she needed to stay mobile.
"Prepare yourself!" he shouted, firing another burst of laser at her. Y/n ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding the blast. She could feel the heat radiating from the beam as it grazed past her, leaving a slight singe in the grass.
Activating her quirk, her voice soft and soothing as she began to speak. "Let's make this fun, Aoyama. You know you want to put on a show!"
Y/n watched as his focus wavered for a moment, his confidence shaken. She could see the flicker of doubt in his eyes as he momentarily hesitated. It was a brief window of opportunity, and she pressed forward, her voice weaving a gentle but persuasive melody. "You can do it! Show everyone your true power!"
Encouraged by her influence, Aoyama fired another laser with renewed confidence, but this time, he overextended himself. "Take this!" he shouted, aiming wildly.
"Now!" Y/n called, feeling the energy swell within her as she prepared to counterattack. She pushed through the fatigue, using her quirk to amplify her voice further. "Let's see what you've got!" As she sang a few notes, the shimmering light surrounding her began to swirl. Aoyama, momentarily entranced, missed his mark, the laser blasting into the ground. The explosion sent up a cloud of dust, momentarily obscuring her vision.
With a sudden burst of willpower, Y/n lunged forward, closing the distance between them. Aoyama blinked, the enchantment wearing off just as she reached him. She ducked under his next laser, narrowly avoiding the heat as she launched herself upward, aiming to grab anything to help her get him out of bounds.
In the chaos, she felt a sharp sting on her arm as one of Aoyama's lasers grazed her, leaving a painful mark. Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to ignore the pain and focused on her goal. "Not this time!" she shouted, rolling to the side and using the momentum to propel herself toward him. In a final, desperate move, she leapt forward, her fingers grasping at the neckline of his shirt.
With one quick tug, she yanked it threw him out of bounds straight onto his back, eyes wide with surprise. The crowd erupted into cheers as the announcer's voice boomed once more. "And the winner is Y/n L/n from Class 1-B!" Y/n landed gracefully, her heart racing with excitement despite the pain on her arm. She'd done it! The thrill of the match, the challenge of facing Aoyama, and the satisfaction of overcoming her limits made the fatigue and injury worthwhile.
As she caught her breath, the realization of her victory sank in. But the dull ache in her arm reminded her of the cost. She gritted her teeth, forcing herself to focus on the cheers around her instead of the sting. As she exited the arena, her classmates cheered, and Kendou rushed to her side. "You were amazing out there! I knew you could do it!"
"Thanks!" Y/n replied, still feeling the adrenaline coursing through her. "It was close, but I think I've got a few more tricks up my sleeve for the next round."
Kendou's gaze dropped to her arm, where a small burn mark was starting to show. "Hey, are you okay? You look like you took a hit."
"It's nothing," Y/n said, waving it off. "Just a little scratch. I'm more focused on what's next."
