Bruised and Blind
As Y/n and Izuku made their way toward the stands, she leaned heavily on him, each step taking more effort than the last as her battered body protested. Her torso and arms were wrapped in thick bandages, and her cheek throbbed painfully where a gash ran deep along the bone.
The edges of her consciousness felt fuzzy, her world still a blank white from the temporary blindness. Not being able to see was disorienting and unsettling. She gripped Izuku's arm tightly for support, and he slowed his pace to match her strained movements.
"Kacchan really went all out, huh?" Izuku said quietly, his voice a mixture of worry and surprise. He'd never seen her fight before today, and it was clear that the intensity of her battle with Bakugo had left an impression. "You... you really held your own. I didn't know you could push yourself like that."
"Yeah, well, Bakugo wouldn't be Bakugo if he held back, right?" Y/n replied, her voice rough and cracked. She attempted a small smile, but the weight of her exhaustion and injuries pulled her expression into something more like a grimace. "And, hey-thanks for helping me out. This whole 'not being able to see' thing is... unsettling, to say the least."
Izuku nodded, giving her arm a gentle squeeze. "Recovery Girl said the blindness should wear off soon, so try not to worry too much. But... I have to admit, it was pretty intense to watch. I didn't expect it."
Y/n let out a weak chuckle, wincing slightly as they reached the stands. The familiar sounds of her classmates filled the air, and before she could gather herself, Kendou's footsteps rushed toward her. In an instant, Kendou's arms wrapped around her in a careful, gentle hug.
"Y/n! We were so worried about you!" Kendou's voice was filled with relief, but it was undercut by a nervous edge. She pulled back from the hug to take a closer look at Y/n's face. "You're covered in bandages, and your eyes-" Her words faltered as she took in Y/n's vacant stare, the way her eyes had turned an unsettling white.
"I know," Y/n murmured, frustrated at the inability to meet her friend's gaze. "It's temporary. Recovery Girl said I'll be blind for a bit. But it's... unnerving, not being able to see. I feel like I'm missing out on everything."
"You really took a beating," Tsuburaba chimed in. His voice was somewhere between admiration and concern, and Y/n could imagine the furrowed brow that probably accompanied it. "Bakugo's one of the toughest fighters in the class, but you held your own longer than anyone thought you would. Still... seeing you like this is kind of scary."
Y/n tried to laugh it off, though it came out more like a strained wheeze. "These? there nothing, just little bandages," she replied with a forced smirk. She didn't want them to worry, even though she knew they could see through her attempt to brush it off. "But what did I miss? I could hear the crowd roaring, so it sounds like there were some intense matchups."
Kendou took a seat beside her, her hand still resting protectively on Y/n's shoulder. "After your match, Todorki was meant to go against Iida but he dropped out for some reason so i guess your third! But now it's down to Bakugo and Todoroki. They're both pulling out all the stops."
"Yeah," Tsuburaba added, sitting on Y/n's other side. "It's the big showdown. Bakugo explosions against Todoroki's ice. The crowd's going absolutely wild."
Y/n nodded, listening intently as she tried to picture the scene. She could hear Bakugou's familiar blasts, fierce and relentless, echoing through the stadium. The intensity of his attacks resonated through the ground, and she felt a strange sense of regret knowing she couldn't witness the spectacle unfolding before her. The white void she saw was unforgiving and vast, stripping away any sense of place or direction.
"Bakugo's fighting style... it's hard to miss, even if you can't see it," she said softly. "I don't know how he does it-relentlessly pushing forward like that."
Izuku glanced at her, his gaze full of concern as he took in the state she was in. The cuts and bruises covering her body were evidence of the punishment she'd endured, and the bandages wrapping her arms and torso were stained with spots of dried blood. He couldn't help but admire the resilience that had kept her standing, even against Bakugo's relentless assault.
"I have to admit, it was pretty amazing to watch you fight," he said quietly, his voice a mix of awe and worry. "You never gave up, even when things got rough. But... I didn't realize just how much it would take out of you. You've really been pushing yourself."
Y/n sighed, the tension in her muscles easing just a little under the comforting weight of her friends' presence. "I knew it'd be a risk, but I had to give it everything. I just... didn't expect it to hit me this hard. I can barely stand, and I'm seeing nothing but white. It's like I've been erased from the world."
Kendou tightened her grip on Y/n's shoulder, a gesture of silent support. "You're not erased, Y/n. You're still here, and we're right here with you. You've got a lot of fight in you, even if you're a bit worse for wear right now."
The reassuring words wrapped around Y/n like a comforting blanket, grounding her in the midst of the overwhelming blankness. She could feel the warmth radiating from her friends, the subtle vibrations of their voices filling the empty space her vision once occupied. And while she couldn't see, she knew they were all watching the match, their focus split between her and the fierce battle unfolding on the field.
A sudden explosion rattled the stands, and Y/n could hear the crowd erupting in cheers. The ground beneath her trembled slightly, the aftershocks of Bakugo's quirk reverberating through her bones. The sounds painted a vivid picture in her mind, one of explosions and ice colliding in a dazzling display of raw power.
"Kendou, what's happening now?" she asked, desperate for any details that would let her feel connected to the world she couldn't see.
Kendou glanced out over the field, her eyes widening at the sight of Bakugo's explosive assault against Todoroki's icy defense. "Bakugo's pushing Todoroki back with a relentless barrage of explosions. But Todoroki's keeping up with his ice, blocking and dodging like it's nothing. It's like neither of them's willing to give an inch."
Y/n nodded, trying to imagine the spectacle. Even though she was blind, she could feel the tension in the air, the anticipation of the crowd as they watched the two powerhouses clash. Her own injuries pulsed with a dull ache, a constant reminder of the price she'd paid to get this far.
For a moment, she let herself sink into the sounds, the cheers and gasps of the crowd, the distant echoes of Bakugo's explosions, the faint hum of Todoroki's quirk. She could almost see it, the way the ice would shimmer under the stadium lights, the flames dancing in the air as Bakugo pushed forward with all his might.
But then, the reality of her situation crashed back over her like a cold wave. She was still blind, her body bruised and battered, her strength nearly spent. And while the fight raged on before her, she could do nothing but listen, caught in a world of darkness and echoes.
In that moment, she realized just how far she'd pushed herself, and the weight of it settled heavily on her shoulders. The sports festival wasn't over yet, but for her, the battles were done. She'd given everything she had, and now, all that was left was the ache of her injuries and the uncertainty of when her vision would return.
