Nikita POV:

"You like him, don't you?" Nisha Didi asked suddenly as we sat in her car, underneath my building.
I stiffened, "W..what?"
"Mayukh. You like him."
"N...No."
"Then why do you avoid conversation with this name? I've been noticing it since a while."
"I avoid his topic, doesn't that mean I don't like him?"
"No. It means you do and you don't want me knowing."
We sat in silence.
"Tell me Nikita."
I sighed, "I do. I don't know how or when but I do. It hurts because I know he doesn't want me. I know he doesn't feel that way about me and I sure as heck know that his parents would never approve. I'm a middle class marathi girl, they're some rich bengali businessmen."
"So?"
"It's not going to happen Didi."
"You won't know until you try."
"I don't want to ask him. He'll reject me. He's done it once."
"He didn't reject you. That time was an hour into this marriage and he has all rights to feel annoyed and scared, but since then he's been an ideal husband to you even though he doesn't need to. He didn't even lash out at you when Rupa Kaki made him put sindoor again, right?"
I nodded.
"Talk to him. Just ask him if he's willing to stay in touch. I'm sure he'd want to."

She's right. I won't know until I try. At max he might say no and I'd be okay with that. I'd be fine, somehow. I nodded and got down the car, ready to talk to him.

I reached upstairs, entered the house and saw his friends. They all waved at me except one person. Riya. She seemed upset and she instantly came and gave me a hug.
"You made a mistake coming in between Mayukh and I, you low class girl."
What? I tried to let go but she held me tighter.
"He hates you."
"Riya... I.."
"Shut up. It's best for you to leave him, before I do something." She tightly pressed my wrist and then let go.

I teared up and got away; I'll tell Mayukh, I'll hear it from him and then decide. I was about to enter his room when I heard his voice along with Armaan. I stood by the door and what I heard froze me.

"—She is a leech. She's just glued on me. I don't want her around. I've told her many times that I am only around her as a friend and maybe a responsibility because of her past, but that's it. She's taking the wrong signs." Mayukh said.
"You don't want her being close to you?" Armaan asked.
"No. I want to be as far away as her as possible."
"Then why did you get so close to her?"
"She didn't stop me."
"So?"
"Nikita doesn't even care. I'm married to her and she couldn't care less. Being a little close and physical won't hurt."

Tears flooded my eyes as I froze. Riya was right. He hates me. He wants to be as far away from me as possible and here I thought he has feelings for me.

I ran into my room and locked the door. I stepped under the shower and cried. The first time I fell for someone so bad and this is what happened. I heard some knocking on the door; I heard Aai saying something.
Shit.
I quickly removed my clothes and wrapped myself in a towel to make this more convincing. I then opened the door and let Aai in.

"Beta, how many times have I said don't shower at night?"
"Sorry." I was heartbroken. I couldn't speak.
"What happened to you?"
"N..nothing."
"Are you sure?" She held my hand.
I wish I could tell you Aai. I really wish I could.
I just hugged her, "Just overwhelmed by the whole graduation and all Aai."
She patted my head and then bid me a goodnight. I locked my room door and changed into a nightwear and then laid on the bed.

He doesn't want me. There's no way he'd love me. I instantly got up and messaged his company that I can't take the job offer in their firm and I instantly started applying to companies outside Dubai. I applied in India, UK and even the US. I can't stay in Dubai, he's going to be here. I won't be here. Yes he has global chains everywhere, but he's based in Dubai, so I'll go somewhere else.

The next morning, I showered and got dressed. I wanted to go back to Indore. I had booked tickets and I had informed Aai and Baba that we're leaving. They were doubtful but they agreed when I insisted that I wanted to apply there. Aai was very happy. We got our bags ready and we were leaving.

"Aai, Baba, you guys sit in the taxi. I'll be back." I told them as they made their way down the lift.
Luckily, it was very early morning and so everyone was still sleeping. I left a letter for Uncle Aunty and a letter for him. My final letter.

I slipped the letters under their rooms and then made my way downstairs, leaving the keys on the table.

The Dubai and the Mayukh chapter is over.
