~Toby's POV~

"Tell me about this Delanie girl. How'd you guys meet?"

Jack looked honestly curious. His eyes were wide and they looked trained on me. Would I be able to share some of it without crying? Probably not.. But it's worth a shot.

"Our moms were friends since they were little kids. So I guess it started with that. The beginning. We would play tea party, war, camping.. All the innocent things.

As we reached ten years of age, I started noticing Delanie in a whole new light. Well.. I guess my mother figure out and told Delanie's mom. I was so embarrassed. But Mrs. Cooper kept her word about not telling Delanie.

I noticed whenever she would talk to me about guys at our school, I would get enraged almost. Or as I learnt later on, I became jealous.

For her fourteenth birthday, she invited me over. Only me. I was so excited. I got dressed up and everything. When I arrived at her house, she was in a dress.

She led me up to her room..."

Jack looked at me with a weird look on his face.

"What?"

"If this becomes sexual bro..."

"No. Shut up. Anyway..

She told me her feelings that day, and at midnight I kissed her. Well, Mr. Cooper caught us and chased me off their property, banning me from it. My mother and Mrs. Cooper let us hang in her tree house when Mr. Cooper wasn't around. And I never left that girl until I was 23. Then I said good bye."

My eyes were tearing up. Jack came up behind me and patted my back.

"Toby, if it makes you feel any better, Delanie thinks about you night and day."

"You're telling me that to make me feel better. Well, it's not going to work. I left behind my first true love. My childhood friend. The person who helped me become the man I am today."

My eyes were now flowing with tears. Jack just sighed and gave me a hug. I didn't care, I would accept any hug right now.

~Delanie's POV~

I was moving around my room, packing my two suitcases. Michaela was trying to do hers too, but I knew she wasn't ready to leave yet. I put my hair in a ponytail. I slipped on a fan made shirt, black skinny jeans, and electric blue hightop converse.

All this was Michaela's idea. She told me we could drive out to California to see him one more time. Try to get me out of my depression. I was excited for this, maybe not ready emotionally. But excited for the adventure ahead.

I couldn't wait to see my Toby. After so many years. After so many restless nights, I get to see his face.

We climbed into my Chevy truck, electric blue. Our suitcases were in the backseat of the truck, four in all. Michaela and I met eyes.

"You ready to see your brother?"

"Ready to see Toby?"

"I don't know." I started the truck and let the motor idle.

"I haven't seen my brother in ages. So I know how you feel."

"At least you aren't in love with him!"

"Eww!! Hell No! Why the hell would you say that?"

"Just telling you the facts."

I looked at her, eyebrows raised in question. Michaela laughed and looked outside. She was embarrassed I could tell.

"Off to Cali!"

"Off to Toby!"

I drove out of the parking lot and drove to the freeway. Going to L.A.

When we were in Arizona, we stopped at a hotel for the night. They had a pool and the water was heated. Michaela and I went swimming that night.

"The sky's beautiful." Michaela whispered. I looked up as well. You could see hundreds of thousands of stars glittering above you in the night sky.

"It sure is."

"Delanie.. You're still not happy are you?"

"I am."

"I can tell when you're sad. Look at me in the face and tell me you're not sad."

I looked at Michaela and her eyes widened. She could tell, I'm going through my major depression.

"It's worse isn't it? Come on, let's go inside and listen to some music. What about the new OneRepublic album?"

"Sure." I float-walked to the stairs and got up them, walking onto the concrete patio. The winds nipped at me and I shivered hard. Michaela got out and wrapped her arms around me. This is why I liked Micky. She was like my older sister. Despite of the four week difference between us.

She led us to the room and locked the door. She walked to my suitcase and pulled out the CD. "I'll put it on while you shower."

I nodded and walked into the bathroom and locked the door behind me. The water I ran was hot and steamy. It felt good to get clean again, after all these days, maybe even a week or two, in that truck, the feeling of my hair being clean again.. I felt human. Maybe even a little alive.

"Delanie, we are in California!"

Michaela and I have driven out of Arizona and onto the Cali border in less than 48 hours.

"Woo Hoo!" I shouted. It was nice to see where Toby was living. We made it to about Pasadena when the truck ran out of gas.

"Aww Damnit. I'll call Jack."

"Wait what?!" Michaela already had her phone to her ear climbing out of the truck.

~Michaela's POV~

I called Jack's cell a few times before he finally answered.

"Hey! What do you want!"

"My car kinda ran out of gas in Pasadena.."

"And you're expecting me to drive all the way there to get you aren't you?"

"Yeah.. I used my little kid voice that always worked on Jack.

"Okay. I'll be there as soon as I can."

We both said our goodbyes and hung up. Jack didn't know Delanie was with me. Man was this going to be a shock!
