"𝑯as anyone ever tried climbing to the top?"

Thalia wanted to roll her eyes, again. So many questions yet so little answers. She didn't know how many more times Newt could mutter, 'yes we've tried that already'.

Thomas was with the Track-hoes today. He'd been with the Slicers already, the blood had him slightly traumatised especially at he start of the day. According to her, he wasn't doing as bad in the gardens, he was a fast learner. The Track-hoes were never in surplus, anyway.

"What about the Box?" He asked and Thalia tensed. Not the Box. Anything but the Box. "Next time it comes up—"

Newt shook his head, his gaze not leaving the tomatoes he was stringing. "We tried that already. Box won't go down with someone in it."

"What if—"

"We've tried it all, man," sighed Thalia. "Twice. It's all a lost cause, and we hate to admit it but the Maze is the only way out. Just gotta get past all the freaky monsters!"

"Freaky what?" Thalia was sure Thomas' eyes would pop out of their sockets.

"Look, you wanna be helpful?" Newt cut in and bent down to grab a metal bucket and shovel. He threw it at Thomas who surprisingly caught it with ease. "Go dig is up some more fertiliser."

Thomas let a scoff rush through his lips as he turned around and headed towards the Forest, tripping over a log as he did.

Thalia watched his retreating back. "Hey, are we just going to let him wander around the forest?"

Zara shrugged from the ground beside them. "I think he could use a little adventure."

"A little trip into the dark forest with the mosquitos, how fun," she said, sarcastically, lifting her eyebrows for a moment.

Newt rolled his eyes fondly at the pair. "Since you care so much, why don't you go after him?"

"But what if I get bit by the mosquitos?"

"Then I'll scratch your bites for you," he answered monotonously. "Please, daisy."

Daisy. On the surface, she hated it but she adored it in her heart. She couldn't remember how it came about, must have been the time she pretended to be able to speak to the pigeon that perched itself on one of the tree branches. Neither of them knew where it came from but it was like a breath of fresh air.

Thalia muttered a series of 'okay's as she trudged towards the mass of trees in the West of the Glade. Only upon entering did she realise that she had absolutely no clue where Thomas had gone but lucky for her, he'd left footprints.
