Things may not be accurate since there wasn't much about Gakus past. . .
THERE WAS A BOY I MEET at the orphanage, the desolated place where everyone asked to be saved from and perhaps that boy was my escape.
"Everyone meet Gaku, he will be joining us today." The instructor may have explained it with a big smile on his face but his body also converted a sadistic message. "You will be staying with M/n." Upon the mention of my name I finally looked up — originally I didn't really care about the new kid but Gaku walked over to me on my own.
He took the first step.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Gaku." He offered me his hand to shake and looked at me with a nonchalant face, you couldn't really tell what he was thinking but that was okay.
"I'm M/n." I shook his hands and back then I couldn't even imagine how close we grew.

A few days have passed while staying in the same room as Gaku. At first we argued about who gets the bed but compromised on switching.
"M/n." Gaku called out for me, perhaps I was the only friend he had in this shit hole because the other kids avoided him like the plague.
"Yeah what's up?" I asked back after finishing reading the one chapter that has been keeping me curious for the past few days. "This is not a normal orphanage right?" Gaku asked and I stopped a little.
It was true that the orphanage wasn't normal and maybe anyone could notice that if they looked a little closer at the child's. None of them ever let their guard down and were observant as if their life was depending on it.
"You'll find out in a month." I didn't know why I said it in such a sad tone. "Oh yeah also some kid called Kei is looking for you." Gaku probably noticed how my eyes lit up at the mention of his name and raised an eyebrow as if he was wondering about our relationship.
I stood up and walked to Uzukis room — plainly assuming he would be there. "Are you following me?" I asked after seeing how Gaku was strolling after me like a lost puppy. "Yeah." He simply replied and I just let him tag along.
"UZUKI!" I slammed the door to his room open and gave the poor white haired a little shock. "Ah there you are M/n." He quickly regained his composure and I took notice of Kumanomi. "Hi." The little girl greeted us both and Gaku just nodded while I gave her a little wave.
"Did you want something?" I immediately asked after sitting down on his bed and Uzukis gaze trailed after me the whole time — Gaku kept close to me the whole time and was cautious of everyone else. "It isn't so important— it's just that something is bugging me..."
"Is it because of the director?" He nodded, and right now he kept quiet because of the newcomer Gaku. Normally people would have asked what was going on but apparently Gaku was only interested in watching M/n. Uzuki didn't say anything when he noticed how Gakus gaze bore right through me. A gaze of interest or something greater.
"Uzuki you're going to leave for the JCC right?" He tensed up when I asked that question, mostly because he didn't disclose this to anyone but a few other friends in the orphanage. "Yeah I am." I hummed after his short answer. "Alright take care then, I'll watch over the others." It wasn't exactly a promise but more of a consolation for Uzuki, you were probably the most responsible after Uzuki in this place.
"Take care then." I smiled at him, not particularly sad or happy, just a smile to reassure him to walk on his path.

Exactly after a month flew by, Uzuki left the orphanage. It wasn't a particularly pleasant sight, seeing Uzuki go but I had other worries. By other worries I meant the director.
Today was the day that the harsh reality began — Gaku and I woke up at around 5am, which surprised him since we normally slept till 8am. The director didn't like it when we arrived too late at the training site. "M/n what is going on?" Gaku asked me, I bit my lips a little out of frustration. I didn't exactly want to see him in pain or anything like that but I couldn't possibly hide Gaku from a lion in a lion's den.
"Just stay focused." That was the only explanation I could give him, it's not like I could possibly tell him that hell in person was about to beat us. I can't even remember my life before the orphanage — everything seemed black and white with only my friends from the orphanage being the colors.
The other people have already gathered at the training ground in front of the director. We were late by a few moments and the director suddenly appeared in front of me and kicked me across the ground. Gaku turned around in my direction with wide eyes but didn't say anything.
The other people were already used to it but some still flinched at the violent treatment of the director. "Be on time." He merely told me and I felt my ribs hurt, but definitely not broken. Maybe they broke the first time when I was late. Gaku hurried over to me and silently checked if I was okay, such a carrying friend.
"Gaku go to the others." He stopped in his checkup and looked at me instead. Red eyes staring back at the (e/c) eyes of mine. "No." Gaku was normally rather obedient but apparently not this time. I saw from the corner of my eye how the director was watching us. He probably wasn't so pleased by the ignorance he was displaying right now.
I could merely see how the director appeared before us in the blink of an eye, normally my eyes couldn't pick up on his movements but this time I managed to block his kick that was directed at Gaku. There was a shockwave pushing away the sand on the ground and the direction remained unfazed.
He took his leg back and merely told us to get back to the ground fast and we obliged because it was the only way to make Gaku cooperate apparently.
