Chaptire Une: Breathe In
1999
Long Island, NYVicktoriya dropped a box on the ground and the thud echoed through the empty house. Sabrina jolted, not out of surprise though but out of a boiling rage. She hung her head down and closed her eyes as an attempt to keep her cool, though her grip on the counter beneath her tightened. It was taking everything in her to remain calm but with every outburst, she felt her patience waning.
Sabrina took a deep breath and then twisted her hair, lifting it up off her shoulders in order to fan her back. Vicktoriya entered the bedroom at the same time, briefly looked at the other woman and then snidely remarked, "It would not be so hot if you had set up everything with PSE&G."
"Maybe, or maybe you could've done it since I had to do everything else." The darker haired woman responded, pulling her hair tie off her wrist. Rather than watching how she was putting her hair up into a ponytail, she looked at Vicktoriya through the mirror's reflection. The brunette stared back at her with an arrangement of emotions that made Sabrina's stomach twist.
"Well, I never wanted to come here. You did." She said with venom dripping in every word.
"You agreed to it, Vick," Sabrina responded, tensely, drilling holes into Vick's face with her dark eyes, "Remember, we agreed to move to get away from Wisayok, together."
And with like that, Vick snapped, "I only agreed because you kept begging me but I did not want to come here. I do not want to be in Long-Fucking-Island and I do not want to live in this haunted-fucking-house!"
"Then where do you want to go, mm? The Hilton? The Eiffel Tower, a pyramid or maybe out in fucking space?" Sabrina countered, turning around to face her with a hardened expression, "You don't have anywhere else to go, Vick. It's either here or a god damn mental institution."
"Well maybe it would have been better if I had went there so I would not have to be stuck here with you!" Vick shouted and then took in a sharp breath as she looked away.
Sabrina swallowed and blinked a few times before saying, "You don't mean that."
When the other girl looked back her way, she scoffed, "It is the truth. I would rather have my fucking brain rewired and be electrocuted every fucking day like Matthews than to be here with your suffocating, controlling—"
"Aww, you think you're a bed of roses?" Sabrina raised her voice over her and took a few steps close, "I do everything in my power to take care of the both of us and you just spit in my face and spite me for no fucking reason."
"I have plenty of reasons to spite you."
Sabrina let out a loud hollow laugh and clapped her hands together. In a condescending tone, she mocked her, "Oh my God, and you know why? You're right! I'm such a monster for saving your sorry ass all the time. Ohh, I'm so bad, I'm so mean for always being there for you. For always looking after you when you couldn't even look after yourself. I'm such a terrible person!"
Vicktoriya met Sabrina half way and tilted her head up to meet her eyes. With every point, she shoved her hand into Sabrina's shoulder, "You are not my savior, Sabrina. You are a reminder of all the shit I had to go through. When I look at you, I see that shitty town, I see those fucking woods and I see..."
