"We miss each other"
"You don't even miss me a bit?" Lewis said, his voice tinged with playful pouting as he peered through the screen.
"It's hard to miss you when I see you through the screen almost every day," I responded, feeling a mixture of affection and amusement as I briefly tore my gaze away from my computer to look at him.Days melted into weeks, which in turn blended into months since I first encountered Lewis. Despite the demands of our respective professions, we managed to stay in touch every single day. Our texts and calls became a sweet refuge from the stresses of our daily lives, creating a comforting bubble that we both cherished. To be completely honest, the warmth I felt in my heart whenever I received a text from him was undeniable, and I couldn't help but get excited every single time.
"You said last time you are leaving Japan, but you didn't finish talking? Where are you going?" Lewis asked curiously.
"Just wanted to let you know that I'm heading back to Birmingham with my family as we're off to Glasgow. My brother is graduating from university, and I want to be there to support him," I typed on my computer, with Lewis's attentive gaze fixated on me through the screen.
"Can we meet up while you're in Britain? I'll fly over straight after the race so we can see each other. If you're staying long enough, you could even come to Silverdale," Lewis expressed, his nervousness evident in his voice.
"Lewis, you're rambling," I chuckled. "But don't worry, okay? I'll be in Britain for a whole month."
"What about Silverstone? Will you come? I could arrange for you and your family to get tickets," Lewis urged, clearly eager to convince me.
"I'm not sure, Lewis," I replied uncertainly about the prospect of visiting. "I feel a bit out of place there, and honestly, I don't know much about the sport."
"Oh, come on, it would mean so much to..." Lewis was interrupted by a male voice.
"I'm on a call, George," Lewis said, sounding a bit annoyed to be interrupted. I held my breath as they continued their conversation, but I couldn't help but let out a sneeze.
"Shoot," I muttered under my breath.
In the past, Lewis expressed a desire to maintain the privacy of our friendship, as he valued the tranquility it brought. It's likely that George was among the select group of close friends with whom Lewis shared details about our friendship.
"Is that a girl?" I heard George ask as his voice became more prominent, from him coming closer and closer.
Suddenly, Lewis disappeared from the screen, and I was met with a new smile.
"Oh my god, that's Millie," George exclaimed, looking back at Lewis as I looked at him wide-eyed, wondering how he knew my name.
"Hi!" I said awkwardly, giving him a small wave, earning a chuckle in return.
"Did he ask you about Silverstone already? He was planning the whole dialogue," George asked me, making me chuckle. I didn't take Lewis for the nervous type.
"George, can you please give me the phone back?" Lewis said with a hint of frustration, causing the screen to shake and making me feel a bit dizzy. It was clear that George probably made a run for it.
"Let me talk to her, Lewis. You're always on the phone with her," George shouted, giving Lewis a stern look. "You're coming, right? It's like a home race, you can't miss it!"
Feeling uneasy, I tried to defuse the situation. "I'll think about it, okay? Maybe I'll go with my brother. He's a fan," I said, hoping to alleviate the tension.
"Okay, I'll hold you to that," George said as he walked, most likely heading back to where Lewis was, leaving me with the phone. "You better be there," he stated firmly.
"Yes, yes," I replied in annoyance as George seemed to be finally satisfied and returned the phone to Lewis. As soon as I heard a door close, I let out a sigh of relief.
"Ugh, that guy is so annoying," I commented, and Lewis chuckled in response.
"He can be a bit persistent, but I probably have to go. We'll text each other about where to meet so I can give you the tickets," Lewis said, surveying the room.
"Alright," I replied, feeling certain that I wouldn't be able to get out of it. After exchanging goodbyes, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement knowing that I would be spending time with Lewis in the near future.
