"We might like each other"
As I meandered through the bustling city streets in the late afternoon, I found myself captivated by the multitude of people around me, each seemingly engrossed in the merriment of companionship, whether in the company of friends or their beloved partners.
My destination beckoned, a restaurant where I was to rendezvous with Lewis for a delightful dinner, followed by an evening at a club with his friends. The only familiar acquaintance in this plan was George, whom I had only spoken to briefly over the phone.
After a few leisurely minutes of strolling, I halted in front of a charming bistro, realizing I had arrived a tad early. I opted to wait outside, savoring the lingering warmth of the sun's rays, allowing myself a moment to bask in its gentle embrace.
"Hey, you're a bit early. I was hoping to surprise you," Lewis chimed as he approached, causing me to open my eyes.
"Apologies, I wanted to ensure I found the place, given my unfamiliarity with it," I admitted as Lewis drew nearer, enveloping me in a welcoming hug.
"No worries, here," he said, easing out of the embrace and producing a vibrant bouquet from behind my back, eliciting a blush from me.
"Oh my, thank you," I exclaimed, taken aback by the colorful display.
"Shall we head in? We have a reservation to uphold," Lewis suggested, to which I simply nodded as he placed a hand on my back, sending a slight shiver down my spine.
Upon entering the bistro, I was astounded by the interior, which left me momentarily speechless. The lush greenery adorning every corner evoked the ambiance of a botanical conservatory.
"Don't let flies in, mouth wide open," Lewis teased.
"Very amusing, Lewis," I quipped, attempting to appear serious. "This place is stunning," I added, genuinely impressed.
"Come, let's find our seats," Lewis encouraged, leading the way.
As we sat down, I let Lewis order for me, as he has allowed me to order for him many times in Japan.
Looking around, I enjoyed the view from the window beside us, which overlooked a lush garden and the sunset painting the sky with orange and purple hues.
Lewis interrupted my silent train of thoughts with a concerned tone. "You know, we don't have to go to the club if you don't want to."
I met his gaze and replied, "Lewis, you can't skip out on your friends because of me."
Concern etched across his face, he responded, "I mean, if you're not going to have a good time, then I'm probably not going to have a good time either," while subtly pouting.
Fearing that he might change his plans, I took his hand and said, "Lewis, I'm sure I will have a great time."
As we savored the last bites of our meal, we made sure to leave in a timely manner so as not to keep his friends waiting.
"How about we continue our tradition and take a walk?" he suggested with a warm smile.
"Just like we always do," I replied with a smile of my own. "Lead the way."
As we strolled, relishing the peaceful atmosphere, Lewis spoke up again.
"We'll walk through this beautiful park and then we'll be right by the club," he announced, to which I nodded in agreement.
He gently grasped my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine, pulling me closer to him. I could feel the warmth of his touch, and it made my cheeks flush with a deep blush, prompting me to momentarily avert my gaze.
During our leisurely walk, we engaged in light-hearted conversation, occasionally pausing to appreciate each other's company after being apart for an extended period.
As we approached the club, the bright lights and the sight of intoxicated people milling around the entrance immediately made me feel uneasy. Sensing my discomfort, Lewis drew me closer, his warm breath tickling my ear as he murmured, "If you feel like you want to go home, tell me, alright?" I nodded in response, grateful for his consideration.
As the imposing bodyguard allowed us entry, Lewis pulled his cap down further, as if to shield himself from the milling crowd. Holding my hand firmly, he guided me through the throngs of people towards what appeared to be a VIP entrance.
"Now we can relax," he assured me as he led the way up a flight of stairs to a secluded balcony. As he released my hand, I couldn't help but miss the comforting warmth of his touch.
As I followed closely behind Lewis, his figure began to blur as he moved further away. Suddenly, a familiar voice called out my name, "Millie!" Startled, I turned around only to find myself wrapped in a strong and warm embrace before I could comprehend what was happening.
