a/n: this is a reminder that romance is a subplot here but it exists, just not obvious enough as much when its in miyuki's pov..? (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
i wanted it to be highlighted that in miyuki's eyes rn, anything other than work, family, and friends - she'll wave it off as something weird and will not try to find out... + the book is mainly in her pov too so.. :')

narumi grumbled under his breath as he trudged through the deserted streets of koto city, his patrol duty weighing heavily on his shoulders.
he was bored and irritated, his mood soured further by hasegawa's insistence on patrolling despite the lack of activity.
just as he was about to unleash a string of curses, his ears were met with kurusu's urgent voice. "miyuki's in danger."
the mention of miyuki's name jolted narumi into action like nothing else could.
uncharacteristically without a second thought, his body moved with urgency - his mind wracking inside his head as he tries to calculate the fastest route to miyuki's location based on the streets she was supposed to patrol in.
he could hear the constant voices in comms as kurusu and other people spoke of the blonde lady's situation as he ran.
his mind raced with numerous questions on how this could've happened, and how uncomfortable his chest felt - like it closed up against his ribs.
a horrible possibility appeared inside his mind and he felt his pace pick up even faster as he tried to shove those thoughts away.
as narumi arrived at the scene, he instantly saw miyuki's motionless body lying on the ground - her scythe just a few steps away as a yoju emerges from the ground dangerously close to her.
narumi wasted no time.
he swiftly aimed his bayonet and took down the yoju with precise shots as the yoju fell, and narumi stabbed his bayonet against its skin.
meanwhile, kurusu's voice echoed in his earpiece, ordering for hasegawa to be alerted of the situation.
but narumi's response was immediate and resolute. "no need." he says as he gently lifted miyuki's unconscious body from the ground - noting the heat radiating from her suit.
"i'm already here with yuki."
