Ya'll are the best people in the world

Today was an interesting day Percy thought, as he lay awake till midnight with Harry and Ron. Listening to Dean and Seamus fall asleep, Neville still wasn't back from the hospital wing.

Percy wondered if he should go with them to the dual with Malfoy, on the one hand, his job was to protect Harry on the other he was exhausted from school the last couple of days. All of his classes ramped up, and he was given homework due for the next class.

"Half past eleven," Ron muttered at last, "we'd better go"

"You coming Perce?" Harry whispered to him as he got up from bed

"Umm, I don't think so," Percy whispered "I will walk down with you guys though. Just in case this is the last time I see my friends."

They pulled on their robes and picked up their wands, Percy also got his pen, and crept across to the spiral staircase, and into the Gryffindor common room. The fireplace glowed in the dark casting shadows throughout the room.

They made it halfway across the room when a voice spoke from the chair nearest to them, "I can't believe you're going to do this, Harry."

A lamp flicked on. It was Hermione Granger, wearing a pink bathrobe and a frown.

"You," said Ron furiously. "Go back to bed!"

Then another voice came from the girl's staircase " Hermione did you really wait till I fell asleep to come down here."

"I can't let them make a fool of Gryffindor, they lose all our points, and I don't want Slytherin to win the house cup" Hermione hissed

"Look Hermione," Layla said coming closer "I go with them and make sure nothing bad happens." Then she walked closer to the boys in a quiet voice so that Hermione couldn't hear said "I would never miss a chance to humiliate Draco."

"Never" Ron whispered

"But, but, you'll lose all the points I got from Professor McGonagall for knowing about Switching Spells."

"Oh go away." Ron snapped

"Hermione, if it makes you feel any better I'm not going either," Percy said

"You'r not?" Layla asked, "Why not?"

Percy shrugged "Tried, school's hard you know"

Hermionie face lit up "Oh oh I could help you with your homework, I already completed all of mine."

Percy's face looked of horror "You guys got room for one more?" he said yawning "Ah never mind I'll just wait here until you come back. Sleeping" He added at the end to Hermione

The three walked through the portrait hole into the dark.

Percy sat down on a sofa across from Hermione. Who was now staring at a book on her lap flipping through the pages.

Percy closed his eyes trying to fall asleep, but he didn't. He lay across on the sofa trying to fall asleep, but he didn't. Frustrated he moved so his feet were at the top of the couch and his head was hovering over the floor, but he still couldn't fall asleep.

"Uh, what are you doing?" Hermione asked

"Trying to sleep"

"Huh, and you think that will help you? You see when I have trouble falling asleep I think about something that calms me down, like reading a nice book in my bedroom."

"Hmm I could do that," Percy said thinking about the ocean and its soft waves. He closed his eyes picturing himself at Montauk beach as the sun set making the sky pink orange. He was drifting off but something was stopping him. He could feel Hermione staring at him.
