Emile stirred awake, staring at the high ceiling of the healer's room. The soft morning light streamed through the narrow windows, casting a warm glow on the whitewashed walls. The sun was beginning to rise, painting the room in shades of gold and orange. He gently removed the covers from his body and sat up, stretching his limbs. He glanced over to the empty bed next to him and smiled a bit. Gareth and Madelyn had only been required to stay in the healer's room for a few days, while Emile was required to stay for at least two weeks. Today marked the end of his stay.

He drummed his fingers with excitement, eager to get back to training and return to some semblance of normalcy. Emile examined his shoulder scar wincing at the memory of how he received the blow. He traced the scar with his fingertips, feeling the rough texture of the stitches. He then examined his leg and arms, amazed at how well the healing magic had removed most of the major scars on his body. Unfortunately, the healer had used up too much of her power to heal all of them and had run out of energy before healing his shoulder wound, necessitating traditional medical stitching.

Emile swung his legs over the edge of the bed and began putting on his trousers and tunic, frowning as he noticed how loose they felt from the lack of exercise over the past couple of weeks. After dressing, he trotted to the doorway of the healer's hall leading to the courtyard. As he twisted the handle and swung the door open, he saw Sir William in mid-motion to open the door from the other side. Both Emile and Sir William, wide-eyed, began to chuckle as Emile stepped back and saluted.

"Sir William!" Emile nodded towards him, "Good morning to you, Sir William."

Sir William smiled, his blue eyes twinkling with amusement and nodded his approval. "Emile, just the person I was looking for."

A concerned look crossed Emile's face. "Oh? I was just about to go and join the training exercises." He trailed off, "What is it I can help you with?"

Sir William nodded his head approvingly. "I understand your eagerness to resume your training. I'm sure the two weeks you've been bedridden have done nothing for your physical fitness."

Emile nodded. "Yes, sir. My trousers actually feel loose on me," he lightly laughed in a joking manner, trying to ease the tension he felt.

Sir William chuckled, his blue eyes examining Emile intently. "Emile, what are your intentions for my daughter?" His tone was serious, and he eyed Emile with a penetrating gaze.

"Uh," Emile froze, his heart pounding. "We're, uh, I mean, I like her, but I think we're just friends, sir. Like, I mean, I like her as a friend, sir," Emile stumbled over his words, feeling the pressure of Sir William's intense scrutiny.

The courtyard outside was alive with the sounds of morning drills. The clinking of swords, the shouts of commands, and the rhythmic marching of boots created a symphony of discipline and training. The air was crisp and fresh, carrying the faint scent of dew on the grass and the earthy aroma of the forest beyond the barracks. Birds chirped from the trees, adding a touch of serenity to the otherwise bustling atmosphere.

Sir William's gaze softened slightly as he observed Emile's nervousness. "Relax, Emile. I'm just looking out for Olivia's well-being. She's my only daughter, and I want to make sure she is in good hands." He placed a reassuring hand on Emile's shoulder, the weight of his concern evident in his touch.

"You're a good young man, Emile. There is lots of potential in you as a Paladin, or whatever you decide to pursue," Sir William whispered reassuringly, his voice steady and sincere. The early morning light streamed through the narrow windows, casting a soft glow on Sir William's face. His blue eyes gazed intently into Emile's, filled with both caution and hope. "I need you to know that whatever your intentions are for my daughter, rest assured that as long as you treat her well, I will support it."
