Two days later, I'd headed out early before work, to catch Dean for a coffee. He was having a late start for training and messaged me the night before. The meet up was basically a non negotiable, like anything he asked me to do.
I was walking down George street, air pods in on the phone to Kyra. She was complaining about her sore neck and waffling on about the beautiful weather in Melbourne.
As I approached, The Puddin Stop, I had to cut my phone call short.
"Babe, sorry I'm just getting to the Pudding Stop, I've got to go" I winced as the words left my mouth.
"Oh okay, I'll call you later" her usual cheery voice beamed through my phone.
"Okay I love you" I quickly added.
"I Love you too, okay" she replied just as quick.
I hung up as I approached the café Dean sitting out the front with Calvin laying nicely at his feet.
"Morning Mo" I bent down kissing dean on the cheek then giving Calvin a pat on the head.
"Mo, that's new?" I questioned him as I stood up straight "Morning"
He shrugged his shoulders "Just felt right ya know"
I smiled, when it feels right it feels right I thought. I pointed inside, taking my phone to my chest slightly.
"My turn?" he nodded
I walked inside greeting Lucy the waitress and ordered a skinny flat white, a regular latte and two Gluten-Free Brownies. Dean and I had done these little catch ups often, his order was burnt into my brain.
I waltzed back out taking a seat across from Dean as we waited for Lucy to make our drinks, heat up our brownies and bring them out.
"How's Laura going?" he asked, his voice upping an octave at the end.
I rolled my eyes "If Kyra ever complains about me, I'm giving her Laura for the day" he smiled shaking his head "Seriously, she was always bossy but this pregnancy shit is just making me want to punch her in the head"
"You have no patience" he scoffed, laughing at my annoyance.
"Seriously dude, I do I put up with Kyra on a daily basis but this shit is next level" I flailed my hands around dramatically vocalising a mimicking tone "It's always El help me with this, I can't do this, that stinks throw it out, do you think I look fat"
He laughed wiping his hand over his stubble. "Though Gig"
I nodded my hands still flailing around with great exaggeration "Not to mention, I'm literally paying for everything and she's here for leisure so she can't work and I think I'm making it too comfortable and I'm scared she'll never leave. "
I sighed loudly staring at him with my most serious face. Lucy finally brought our order and exchanged her friendly hello with Dean.
Dean and I's coffee time was cut short, him looking at the phone and getting a text from Steph about picking up some order she had from the post office. We said our goodbyes and I walked straight to work, deciding to start my shift a little bit early.
My day flew by, it was busy but I liked the company of seeing the familiar faces and having chats about. After getting home I curled up on the couch. I had just started to drift into a nap, the silence of the room pulling me into a light slumber, when my phone buzzed violently on the coffee table.
Groggily, I reached for it, my heart skipping a beat when I saw Kyle's name flashing on the screen. We hadn't spoken in months.
"Kyle?" I answered, trying to mask my surprise with casual indifference.
