Reese POV
.
"You fucking asshole!" I push him harshly against the lockers, the banging noise echos off the walls.
I hope it gives him bruises.
"What are you talking about?!" Brendan cries out as I push him again, the noise even louder than the first time.
"Cut the shit." I grab his stupid polo shirt from the collar. He's scared, as he should be. His eyes shift to the ends of the hallway, trying to find someone to help him.
Luke's keeping watch on one end, and Cherry on the other so I'm all set.
"Dude! I-I don't know what the fuck you're talking about!" Brendan looks at me with wide eyes and I scoff.
What an idiot. Does he think I'll believe him and let him go? After what he did? That's fucking hilarious and will also never happen.
I raise my hand to punch him in the face and he shields himself quickly.
"Okay! Okay!" He relents, not even being punched yet. He's a loser, a disgusting piece of shit that thinks he can treat girls however he wants.
"Talk." I warn him. if he doesn't I'm going to have to make him.
I usually don't resort to violence. I've been trying to be better, for her but this is serious and I will do what I have to.
"Fine! I- Mia came up to me. She was friends with Summer," he starts off with things I already know.
I shove him again.
"Talk fucking faster!" I'm angry now. I think he's trying to distract me until someone comes along and he can get away.
"Okay man! Mia wanted you. You were with Summer. She had this whole crazy ass plan, and involved me." He talks fast, knowing I have no patience for his stupidity.
"What else?" I let him go now, he's going to talk and I'm not going to make him keep shit from me.
"She was threatening me. I-I had some shady shit going on and she caught me," he looks to the ground like he doesn't have much to say about that.
"Mia threatened me. Said she was going to get CPS involved and all this shit," he turns angry now, "so she staged this whole insane plot to get you guys broken up!" He explains.
I'm trying to not be biased. I don't want to take his story fully incase he's trying to cover his ass, but Mia is a crazy girl and I wouldn't put any of that past her.
"I never wanted to do anything with Summer. I swear to God. Mia made it look like I tried to- I didn't want to." He looks ashamed, not meeting my eyes and tears on his face.
"How do I know this isn't bullshit? I heard you fucking threatened her in a classroom." I get closer, about to punch him in his face.
"I-Mia. Mia threatened me that day to do some crazy shit. My d- my family is at stake here." He chokes up. I can tell the guy is upset, there must be some truth to his story because the emotion I'm seeing is award winning.
"Okay, dude. That doesn't excuse everything you've done, obviously. You've been fucking shitty- my girl thinks you tried to- you did. I'm sick to my stomach at the shit he did. I'll never excuse what he did to her- no matter what situation he's in.
Everyone has their own situations, and discounting that is not right. It's obvious he needs to figure out his shit, and I need to make sure Mia is the issue here.
"I know I did fucked up shit. I'll spend my whole life trying to make it up to everyone involved. I have a family and I needed to help them, even if it meant unspeakable things that could put my future in jeopardy. I'm sorry, Reese. I really am." He finishes, turning to walk away and leave me there.
I let him walk away. It's clear he's fucked up in his own ways, but I need to figure everything out.
He stops almost at the end of the hallway and turns back to me with regret on his face.
"Man, I-I'll never forgive myself for what I did." He pauses, "I have- I have things at home happening. I need to protect my family. Mia better fucking suffer for the shit she's doing- she's insane. I'm just- I'm so sorry." He nods and walks away, his head down.
Luke walks down the hall to me after Brendan leaves. I can tell my best friend is confused, and I am as well.
"Bro, what happened?" Luke asks, putting a hand on my shoulder and looking back at where Brendan left.
I just shake my head in confusion. I have no idea what the fuck happened. It seems like Brendan isn't lying, why would he tell me things about his life. He has nothing to gain, and only wants to protect his family.
"I think Brendan has some fucked up things going on." I start, not wanting to get into Brendan's issues, "but he said Mia has this whole plan going on, that she's insane. The story tracks." I tell Luke, not sure what to make of the whole talk.
To be honest, I was going to rough him up... a lot. I can't excuse the shit that's happened. Summer is the most important thing to me, and her feelings are at the top of the list. She's been bullied and outcasted for something she didn't do- her so called best friend is so insane that she planned everything.
"We need to find Mia." I turn serious. I hate to admit it but the girl is smart. I don't know how far she has planned her insanities, but if it's been going on for two years I assume she's not done yet.
"I'll get Cherry. She won't mind using a bit of force." Luke smiles and turns to the end of the hall where Cherry is. They've had something weird going on, I don't know if they're just friends but it's not my business until Luke tells me.
"Call me after, I'm going to find my girl." I wave him off and walk to the opposite end of the hall. I know Summer is around here somewhere. It's the end of the day and she wanted a snack from the vending machine so she went off about fifteen minutes ago.
"Reese!" I hear a call from my left and Summer comes walking toward me. Her little outfit she was so proud of this morning is swishing around her and her hair is undone.
She looks so carefree and happy. The way she should have been the past two years.
I lean down and give her a sweet kiss before taking her hand and leading her to my car.
We need to find Mia.
Then we can end all this shit for good.
