08.19.21

I thought that if we'd separate
ways, I'd be left behind in peace,
without wounds, without scars,
but I was mistaken.

'Cause I am more than just
hatred and wrath, more than just
broken vows and unfulfilled tomorrows,
more than just shattered pieces.
Above all, I am more devastated than
I expected.

I thought I'd be alright with my heart
unscathed but I became more damaged
each passing day, thinking that I'd be
welcomed by sober thoughts and painful
reality, where you and I no longer
exist in one future.

I thought I'd be walking fine
along the path of moving forward.
But, darling, you never warned me about
the steep road and how sharp the rocks are.
I get more wounds each time I attempt
to just let go and forget.
