(Just a continuation of the last chapter.)
John preferred saying that he didn't care. Because it was mainly the Truth, even with his Savior around.
John felt nothing ever since birth. He couldn't genuinely cry when he was hurt, he couldn't feel bad for someone if they experienced a tragedy, he couldn't understand when people were happy that they won something, he couldn't understand any of that. Only when he met his Savior did those ideas of emotions that seemed so foreign to him begin to make sense.
And even then, it was hardly enough to really "fix" him.
He felt everything with his Savior. He was fixed when his Savior was around to keep him up in the sky to experience what he's never felt for almost all of his life. But without his Savior... He felt nothing.
Without his Savior, he still couldn't feel joy that he won something, or sad that he or someone else got hurt, or disgust when he didn't like a food, or genuine care for other people... Without his Savior, he was still broken.
And John didn't mind just having Seraphina as his only friend. It was better to just be friends with someone you actually care about than a bunch of people you don't care about, in his opinion.
He didn't always have that way of thinking though. Back then, when he was still trying to pretend he gave a shit, he thought that more people he would consider friends were better. He was a Cripple for a good portion of his life as a kid, so he never got many friends, even when he got an ability, but he always tried to be civil with others who were civil to him. Adrion and Claire were an example, he supposed.
He didn't exactly know what to think of Adrion and Claire anymore. Before he started getting more violent, he and those two would spend a lot of time together, both inside and outside of school. Though he only did it because he was supposed to think of them as his friends, he could admit that they helped him a lot. Well, Adrion helped him.
Adrion knew about his condition, his self harming habits, and practically everything else there was to know about someone like him. Adrion has been around long enough for John to think of him as someone who understood him. Obviously Adrion didn't know what feeling nothing felt like, but he tried his best to be supportive. Kinda like Sera...
Claire didn't know of his condition, and thought he was odd, but she stuck around either way. He knew now that she just wanted to get close to him for his power, but the joke was on her in the end because John felt nothing towards her.
Both of those people stuck with him, yet they both ended up leaving him in different ways. Adrion simply didn't talk to him after that incident, and Claire betrayed him by getting all his peers to ambush him in the turf war location.
They were already distancing themselves from John because of his violent habits, but John lashing out at Claire for what she did seemed to make both Adrion and her back away from him entirely. He didn't blame them.
Both people that he thought were gonna stick around ended up leaving a long time ago. John didn't care. He couldn't care. He made that very clear, and the day he got expelled was the day he stopped trying to pretend. It all felt so pointless to even try, and John had never wanted to die more than that day. He told himself that he shouldn't try and make friends anymore after that whole shit show, especially since he can't care about them. It felt pointless, and stupid, and a worthless waste of time...
But his Savior wanted him to try and be friends with those three idiots Remi, Blyke, and Isen, and as much as he would rather just not do that, he didn't want to disappoint his Savior, no matter how pointless it all felt to him.
And that's how he ended up with those three idiots without Seraphina. Seraphina was currently trying to grab them a drink from the Woba Boba in the store, and Remi, Blyke, and Isen were currently discussing whether or not you should wear socks to bed or not, with Blyke in obvious disagreement, Isen arguing the opposite, and Remi just watching with an amused smile. John would much rather be with his Savior right now, but she said that he should stay with them as another distancing exercise. He felt sick to his stomach at the thought of Sera leaving when she just returned to him a day ago, but he would try. It was only a few minutes, nothing big... He'll be fine.
