Aria had been cleaning all day. She knew when her father arrived the house must be spotless or she would be in deep trouble.

The moment Ethan walked in the door his fake smile faded. He threw his brief case across the living room, opened the liquor cabinet and slammed it shut. Aria didn't even make eye contact, not wanting him to say anything to her.

A couple hours went by, Aria now finished cleaning up the glass from the bottle of liquor that her father had thrown at her earlier. She had gotten up from the floor; and quietly walked to her room not wanting to wake up her father.

Arias room was the one place where she felt she could be herself. The walls filled with pictures of her and her closest friends, her drawings she made when she was bored, everything she loved. But even though she had felt like she could be herself in there, her father would sometimes come in and trash the room. So, she had this hidden box under one of the broken floor boards where she had things that meant a lot to her: a picture of her mother, a group picture with her friends, her mothers necklace, and her diary. Her diary was filled with things she didn't want people to find out about, especially her father. That's why she had kept it in the hidden box.

Her diary was one of the things that only she knew about. In it was all her secrets, her fears, her life experiences, traumas. Anything you could think of that you wouldn't wanna share with anyone. Even though everyday seemed to be the same she had wrote in it anyway.

Aria opened the floor board knowing her father was passed out drunk. She grabbed the box and opened it taking out the diary. She began to write..

Dear diary,
Today was just like every other day. Same routine, same time, same place. I want to have a different life, and escape this hell hole. Tomorrow is the Aptitude Test. The test to see which faction people fit in best. The test is to help you choose your rightful place but all I see is a chance out. A chance out of here. Out of this life. Out of this faction. All I know is any faction is better than Amity. Any faction is better than living this life with my father. This is my one chance to get out and I'm not losing it.

Aria hears foot steps coming from down the hall. She rushes and puts everything in her box and puts it under the floor board, knowing that her father was coming. She just barely gets back to her bed when the door swings open.

"Tomorrow is the Aptitude test." he said sternly. Trying to intimidate her. He started getting closer and closer to her.

"I know father." She said trying to sound as scared as she could.

Now he was completely in her face, "You will choose Amity, whether the test result says to or not. You will not embarrass me, you understand?!"

"Yes, father." Aria said, wanting the conversation to be over.

"Good." he said with a smirk, thinking that he got to her. But oh was he wrong. She knew that even if the test said Amity she wasn't going to choose it.
