CHAPTER V

ElISE POV

It was already dark when I left the library because it was almost six o'clock. Thunder and lightning signaled that a heavy rain was approaching.

I was walking to the parking lot when heavy rain started to pour. Guess I'm unlucky today. I ran to get into my car because I easily got sick.

I took off my hoodie and placed it in the backseat. The parking lot was quiet because I was the only one there. I started my car and drove out.

I hadn’t gone far when I noticed a woman sitting at the waiting shed not too far from the campus.

It was dark and the rain was heavy, so I couldn’t make out her face. The light was flickering, making it difficult to identify her.She was tapping her leg, probably because of mosquito bites.

This area could be dangerous at night because many drunk people pass by here. I wouldn’t want my conscience to eat at me if something bad happened to her.I stopped not too far away because I couldn’t see the road clearly due to the heavy rain.

What if I let her ride with me? But then again, what if she’s a robber?

Where could her ride be and why is she still here at this hour? Wow, concerned much!

Avery had made several missed calls, but I didn’t answer because I knew she would just scold me.

I had been parked for almost 30 minutes and the rain had somewhat weakened. I was just watching her as she hugged herself because she wasn't wearing a jacket, just her uniform blouse and skirt.

Her head kept drooping against the metal she was leaning on, probably because she was sleepy.

Damn! My conscience couldn’t take it anymore, so I started my car and drove slowly toward her.

I hadn't gone halfway when I noticed two men approaching her, so I sped up to get there before anything could happen to her.

When I parked near them, I grabbed my gun from the car's compartment and placed it behind me.

"Hey, back off" I shouted as I got out of the car and approached them. The two men stepped back and turned to face me. I swear they reeked of alcohol and smelled terrible.

"Wow, we hit the jackpot, bro. One for each of us" one of them laughed.I looked at the woman, who was bowed down and trembled with fear. I took the gun from behind me. They raised their hands and smirked.

"Move" I commanded them. They immediately stepped aside, so I approached the woman and grabbed her hand to pull her up. With the force of my pull, she leaned against my chest. Tsk! Clumsy.

"Chill, miss, we won't hurt you" one of them said as he started to step closer, but I pointed the gun at his head.

"One more step, and I'll blow your head off" I said angrily, making him step back.I helped the woman toward my car without taking my eyes off these two perverts.I went to the backseat and let her in.

"Next time you try to harass someone, at least be braver" I said with a smirk and got into the driver's seat.Before driving off, I rolled down my window and raised my middle finger at the two perverts.

While on the road, neither of us said a word. I heard her softly sobbing, so I pulled over to the side of the road to check on her.

"Are you okay?" I asked with concern. She nodded but didn't look up, keeping her head bowed. She was shivering, so I turned down the air conditioning, grabbed my spare hoodie, and gave it to her.

"Here, put this on for now. Don't worry, I just did the laundry for it" I said, and she glanced up, revealing her surprising identity.It's her again.

"Thank you" she murmured, taking the hoodie. It was a bit big on her petite frame. Is she still eating?

"By the way, I'm Elise" I introduced myself, extending my hand, but she ignored it, so I quickly withdrew. I felt embarrassed there.She didn't respond and leaned her head to the side.I started the car and drove again. Wait, where should I take her?

"By the way, where should I drop you off?" I asked again, but I only heard a quiet snore. Tsk! She doesn't know how to say  thank you.

It's almost 7 PM and I'm feeling hungry, so I glanced at her again. She was sleeping soundly. She must be tired from school, just like Avery when she comes home.

I stopped when I saw a convenience store. I was going to wake her to ask if she wanted to eat, but maybe not.I grabbed two cup noodles, ice cream, and water, then paid at the counter.

When I returned to the car, she was awake, staring outside as if deep in thought.

"Here, to warm your stomach. I didn't wake you up because you were sleeping so soundly" I handed it to her; she just looked at me and analyzed my entire person.

"Don't worry, it's not poison" I joked because my hands were sore.She took it and smiled weakly at me.I watched her eat; she was beautiful. Her small eyes, high nose, and thin, red lips.

"Done checking me out?" I was embarrassed, so I looked away and started eating.When she finished eating, she picked up her bag and pulled out some pills, so I handed her some water.She closed her eyes as she swallowed the pills.

"Why do you have so many? Are you sick?" She just shook her head and closed the water bottle.

"Headache and sleeping pills" I nodded and continued eating. I paused when she handed me money.

"What's this for?" I asked in surprise.

"For the food I ate" she said emotionlessly. I shook my head and didn't take what she offered.

"No, that's my treat" I said, handing her an ice cream.

"It's for lift your mood" I said,and she looke at me frowning.

"I'm full," she said, leaning back.

"Where should I take you?" I asked, adjusting our leftovers.

"Take me to the nearest hotel " she said, her eyes closed.I noticed her phone ringing, but she didn't answer. Perhaps her boyfriend, I remembered she's taken.

It felt like a weight on my chest when I remembered she was already taken. What's happening to me? I don't even know her.

I drove and when I saw a hotel, I parked in front. She organized her things and was about to open the door when she faced me.

"I'm Allesia, and thank you for saving me earlier" she smiled and got out of the car.

What the! Is that it? No goodbye kis... Oh shit! What are you thinking, Gab? I watched her until she entered the building, still wearing my hoodie. When she got on the elevator she immediately glanced back where I was , and smiled.My heart raced as if it wanted to break free. A surge of electricity ran through my body, waking me up completely.

I sighed at the feelings I was experiencing and started the car, knowing Avery would be waiting for me angrily at home. Remember, we came to school together, so we'll go home together too.
