Medora staggered back. She blinked, but the woman was normal again.
"Your passport?" the woman in uniform handed the document to the stunned girl.
"Uh-um thanks." Medora took the passport and walked forward. What the heck? No that can't be real. Medora thought. No one else seemed to have noticed.
She moved to the nearest security line putting her stuff in bins. She remembers the countless times she's travelled with her parents. She never had to travel alone then. She wasn't scared of much, but turbulence was what frightened her; not the plane crashing. She hopes that the person next to her on the plane wouldn't think she was strange.
When it was her turn to walk through the detector, it beeped.
"Miss, please step on to this mat." A man guided her to the side. Medora was expecting this. She broke her arm a couple of years ago and they had to put a bolt in her left arm. She didn't want them to remove it since it made her feel different.
"Are you sixteen?" he asked.
"Yes."
The guard held up his device to scan her. It beeped at her left elbow. The man started feeling around her arm and said, "Do you have any metal implants?"
"Yes, a screw." The man eventually let her through and she slipped her shoes back on. Pulling out her boarding pass, she checked what gate she was going to. Gate sixty-three. She looked up and saw she was only at number twelve. These shoes will be the death of me. She thought as she trudged along.
Finally, gate sixty-three came into view. A bunch of girls were seated waiting. These were the type of girls she hated, the rich girls who made sure everyone knew it. She sat herself down next to the nicest looking girl there was.
She immediately turned to face Medora. "Hi! I'm Spencer. I'm from California. Who are you?" Oh no. The 'I'm perfect and everyone needs to know me.'
Medora plastered a smile and played along. "The name's Medora, I'm a native here in Florida."
"Awesome! By the way, I love your dress." Spencer said and touched the girl's shoulder.
"Oh this thing? I was about to throw it away! Didn't want to wear anything too nice on a plane ride." Total lie.
The girls continued to talk. Actually, Spencer mainly talked about all her academic achievements which included highest grade average in grade nine and ten, high school grade reps both years, and other unimportant things.
"I don't recognize you two." said the voice from a pretty girl. "I've been going to this school for five years and I've never seen either of you. And you guys most definitely don't look like first years."
"I'm Spencer, and this is Medora. We're going into grade eleven." Spencer, still carrying her smile, ignored the smug look from the other girl.
"So, you've never been to this school before yet you go into grade eleven?" the girl scoffed, "Good luck with that."
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name." Medora stood and stared at the other girl. In Medora's opinion, the other girl was overdressed. Curled hair and a gown are a tad bit overdone for a direct ten hour flight. She was stunning though. Long blonde hair with fair skin.
"Emilina. Now, Spencer is it?" Spencer nodded in response, "That dress seems out of date. I don't know how rich you are but it doesn't seem like much if you're wearing that."
Spencer glanced down at her bright sundress and blushed. Emilina smiled and walked back to her group of friends laughing on how ridiculous the girl looked.
"Ignore her. So what seat are you in?" Medora sat back down. She didn't particularly like Spencer's enthusiasm, but she was the only friend Medora had. To their disappointment, they were sitting no where near each other.
After waiting for an hour, they were finally called to board the plane. The girls parted and found their seats. Medora waited to see who she would be sitting next to. Her seat was located near the front of the plane with a window view. Medora looked outside which helped calm her nerves.
"Oh no. " Medora turned and saw the last person she wanted to see. Emilina.
"Move. I want that seat." Emilina waited impatiently. Medora was going to say something but the other girl interrupted her. "I don't want to hear it. I'm sitting next to you and I want that seat."
Medora sighed. She didn't feel like getting into a fight. She moved to the aisle seat and let Emilina have the window seat.
..........
They've been in the air for almost five hours already when they heard an announcement.
"This is your captain speaking, there seems to be a storm in the direction we are going in. We will be taking a detour closer to Europe. This will add time to the expected arrival time. Thank you."
"Really? I will complain about this!" Emilina exclaimed.
"Calm down. Do you want to die?" Medora didn't mind. She'd rather avoid as much turbulence as possible.
Emilina got up to go and use the washroom. They already served them lunch so Medora occupied herself by watching a movie on the screen. The movie was absolutely boring- something about vampires that she wasn't interested in. Emilina finally sat herself back down with a fresh powdered face.
"Are you really watching that garbage?" Emilina can't seem to keep to herself. Medora internally rolled her eyes.
"Fine." Medora switched the movie to a map of where they were. The plane was supposedly nearing the Mediterranean Sea.
"Whatever." Emilina seemed bored, she obviously didn't want to converse with Medora, so she turned to the person behind her. "Can you believe this airline? I mean how ridiculous-"
She was interrupted when the plane started to shudder. Medora immediately gripped the arms of her seat and held her breath.
"This is your captain again. We are going through a patch of turbulence so I ask if you may all return to your seats and fasten your seatbelt."
The plane seemed to be flying more steady so Medora released the breath she was holding.
"No no no no. This can't be happening. Make it stop!" Emilina started shrieking.
"Please. Just be quiet. That's all I ask." Medora said. Emilina was getting on her last nerve; she felt like her brain was going to explode.
"You don't understand..." Emilina continued to talk but Medora tried drowning her out. She was starting to feel this rage and anger she couldn't control.
The plane lurched to one side and girls started screaming. Medora clenched her fists. Be quiet. Please just stop talking. BE QUIET!
The plane started dropping and an island came into view.
Shut up shut up shut up. STOP!
And everything went dark.

I felt like this chapter was very typical teen story kind of thing but I needed something to ___ __________ off and _____ ____ that. (I'm not saying...)
Anyway, I forgot to mention, washroom is bathroom/restroom if you're not Canadian.
This chapter was over 1100 words. I don't want to have more words since otherwise it would just end up being unimportant and irrelevant stuff.
Please comment what you think and HIT THAT VOTE BUTTON!!!! :)
I'm trying to upload everyday since it's summer. I got behind today though since I had a bunch of chores.
