Anger boiled through Medora's veins. How could they leave her like that? Not another word. Not even a hello? This wasn't the first time she experienced this whole thought process. She normally goes and hides on the roof and tries to think of what she has. She has a roof over her head. She has food. She has an education. There wasn't time for thinking this time. It was time to go.

"Medora darling, the car is ready." a voice floated from the far side of the room.

She walked towards the intercom and pressed a button. "All right; I'm coming."

She gave a final kiss to her pup and grabbed her backpack. "See you in a year." With that, she turned off the light and walked to the front door.

Outside, a black Sedan car was waiting for her. She walked towards one of the doors and a chauffeur opened it for her. She sat herself down in the soft leather seat and buckled up. Beside her sat a woman in her late forties. She was dressed formally and had shoulder-length blonde hair that encased her pale face.

"Where's Dad?" Medora said without turning to face her mother.

"Something came up at work. He really does wish to be here." the woman said. She sounded sincere when she said that. Laura Preston and her husband Richard always wanted a child. They didn't really mind that the foster child they took in wasn't a newborn. They decided that as long as they would raise her, they would be happy.

The Preston's were obviously wealthy. Mister Preston was a CEO of a computer technology company. He was often busy with random meetings and never talked much. Laura Preston was a successful defence attorney but was very sad at home.

If Medora tried to think back when she first met her new parents, the two seemed happy; they welcomed her into their arms. Now, it seems like they were hit by a wave of depression. Medora sometimes wondered if it was her fault. She tries really hard to please them with school and other activities. She never really talked to them though. They only ever exchanged simple conversations. The only thing Medora will really talk about is her parents. Her birth parents. Laura tries to give as  much information she can, but even that is limited. She knows that this topic is the only thing Medora will talk to her about, and she tries to enjoy it while it lasts.

"You mean he's not going to say goodbye? I'm leaving for a year!" Medora said.

"Well, you can come and visit us for the holidays." Missus Preston looked hopeful as she said this.

"You know I'm not going to do that." Medora looked at her mother and closed her eyes. "I'll... I'll just visit places. I could always stay at my dorm."

Her mother pursed her lips. "Fine." They both turned from each other and looked out the windows.

Medora lost track of time. Normally, it takes almost an hour to reach the Miami airport. She was always fascinated  with how things worked, mostly science related.

"Miss Laura, we have arrived." said the driver in the front seat. He helped Medora with her two suit cases to the check in counter.

"Mom, you don't need to come all the way to security with me." Medora sometimes hated having her mother around. She would always try to start a conversation that ended in an awkward silence. Medora liked things quiet. She didn't have many friends. Come to think of it, she had none. She never went to a public school nor a private. She was home-schooled by a very old man who probably thought she was a boy.

"You are leaving for a whole year and not coming home to visit. I want to spend as much time with you as I can." Laura Preston started to press a serious tone, one normally seen in a court room. "As your mother I have the right to want to be with you."

Medora continued walking ignoring her mother. The older woman stomped her way to the teen's side and grabbed one of the suitcases. Medora didn't object but still ignored her mother.

"I brought you a change of clothes for the flight." Laura said while holding up a bag.

"Mom no. Why would I do that? The flight is over ten hours with no stops. It would not be comfortable." Medora stopped her tracks and grabbed her mom's elbow and pulled her to the side of a wall.

"Sweety, this flight is specifically for all the girls going to the same school as you. I want you to make a good first impression. Make this like a gift from you to me. I'm not asking much from you."

Medora stared at her mother's pleading eyes and sighed. She grabbed the bag and walked to the nearest washroom.

"Oh god." she mumbled as she pulled out a black cap sleeve cocktail dress with lace. It wasn't ridiculous. Far from it. It was gorgeous. Medora honestly loved it, but she feared for comfort. It was very form fitting; it required to sit like a lady.

Medora looked down and saw something else in the bag. Shoes. High heels to be exact. They weren't anything crazy; red suede pumps. Well they were a bit high for Medora's taste but she didn't mind.

She slipped her clothes in the bag but stopped when she held her favourite sneakers. She put those in her backpack. She walked out of the stall and walked to one of the mirrors. The washroom was crowded, of course it was. Saturday mornings were the perfect time for a flight.

"Thank goodness I shaved." Medora said under her breath while observing herself.

She walked out of the washroom towards her mother.

"You look good." Missus Preston said as they made their way to the security checkpoint.

Medora smiled, "Thanks." Her mother reached over and pulled Medora's hair out of the ponytail it was in. Her hair flowed down to her waist matching the dress's colour. They finally made it to their destination.

Medora turned towards her mom; she pulled her into a tight hug. Her mother stiffened but soon relaxed. Even though Medora was never close to her mother, she was going to miss her. She did love her, but to her realization, she never expressed it.

"I love you Mom." she whispered in her mother's shoulder.

"I know." Laura Preston smiled, "Now, if you need anything, just write us. Remember, you are welcomed to come home and visit."

After the goodbye, Medora stepped into a line. Holding her passport, she couldn't help feeling excited.

After the long wait, she was able to hand her passport to the person who checked if they were counterfeit.

A woman with her hair pulled back into a tight bun stretched out her hand for the document. As the woman verified Medora's passport, the woman said, "You are dressed up. Where you heading?"

"Uh, a business trip." Medora had a bad feeling from this woman. She was a figure of authority; she should trust her. She was just getting a bad vibe and didn't think telling her the truth was smart.

"Sure." The woman handed back the passport and flashed a smile. A smile with pointed teeth with a flicker of fire for hair.

A/N

Well then. I don't know if some of you don't like these author's notes but I just need to mention some stuff (prob every chapter)

-I just realized that Medora's family kind of sounds like Rachel's (rich family, boarding school, etc) so I didn't mean for that to happen but I needed her to come from a rich family sooooo.

-The picture is what I want her dress to look like (not a fanart but just to get your mind working) Instead of those jewels on the lace, it would just be black lace.

-This chapter was a lil longer (1200+ words) but whatever.

-Can you guess the monster?

-I'm not doing a cast thing cuz I want you to picture the characters however you want (SO YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN ART AND SEND IT TO ME izzybugg(insert 'at' symbol) hotmail.com    )
