Alekses had just got out of the shower. She dried her hair and walked to her bedside to check her phone.
Most of her notifications were unimportant and she was about to put her phone down until she saw she had received a message from Little Mouse.
"Holy shit," she mumbled.
She quickly read the message and wondered if she should respond or not.
"Probably best not to."
She placed her phone back on the nightstand and left the room, excited for tomorrow.
Xhenia sat at the tree and watched Paws jog around while she rubbed Oreo, who tiredly plopped herself on Xhenia's lap a moment ago.
Paws ran and ran then he abruptly stopped. He did a complete 180 and took off past Xhenia. Xhenia sighed. She already knew who it was, so there was no point in checking.
"Hey there, bud," Alekses chuckled at Paws jumping around her with a stick in his mouth. She grabbed the stick and tossed it, sending the playful boy on a run.
She looked at the tree and grinned with ecstasy when she spotted Xhenia. Clearing her throat, she pushed her grin away and walked to the woman.
"May I sit," she asked after approaching.
Xhenia nodded, keeping her gaze on Paws. She only looked at Alekses when the woman had fully sat.
"How have you been, Alekses," Xhenia asked, starting the conversation.
Alekses felt the pounding of a headache she had been nursing for the last few days and bitterly chuckled.
"Great question. How have you been?"
"That's...also a great question," Xhenia laughed.
Alekses chuckled alongside Xhenia until their laughter died in unison. She looked over at Xhenia and met the woman's eyes. Xhenia was already looking at her with a gentle smile.
"Alekses."
"Yeah," Alekses hummed, throwing the stick for Paws again.
"I loved you," she started, gaining Alekses' full attention. "Then I convinced myself that I hated you, but that didn't last long because everything I did reminded me of you. My actions always reminded me of the good times we had together, even the bad times."
Alekses silently listened to Xhenia with words of an apology ready to rip from her lips. If a Time Machine existed, she would go back and approach Xhenia differently. She subconsciously played with blades of grass beside her.
"Saying that, I know you want to spout all kinds of apologies, and I have an answer for you. I forgive you, Alekses," Xhenia took a deep breath. "But I don't want to forget everything you did. I know that's a request you'll never make, but if you ever did, it's one I can't fulfill because I want to remember those moments."
"Why," Alekses started but then cleared her throat. "Why do you want to remember them?"
"Because you're in them," Xhenia sighed. "And that's all that mattered to me. You are precious to me. Plus, I still don't think you really treated me with malice."
"I...thank you," Alekses responded. "I don't want you to forgive and forget. I want to atone for my actions. I want to make right everything thing I had done. I want to truly start over with and learn from the mistakes I made."
Xhenia placed her hand on top of Alekses' hand smiled.
"That's why I asked you to come out," she hummed. "Let's turnover a new leaf and start anew. I'm sure we've both learned plenty over the past few years, and we can try again."
Alekses felt the hope in her heart rise at these words.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure, but let's do it the right way and start off as friends," Xhenia held out her hand and said.
Before Alekses could connect their hands, Xhenia grabbed Alekses' face, pulled her down a bit, and kissed her. It had been a long awaited kiss for the both of them. Even if it was just a peck, Alekses felt like she had just had her first piece of pie.
Xhenia let go of Alekses and placed her hand back out. "Sorry, I felt I needed to do that before we started over."
"It was very much needed," Alekses chuckled. "How do we start over?"
"Well, you have a name, don't you?"
Alekses reached out and gripped Xhenia's hand.
"Hi, my name is Xhenia," Xhenia giggled.
This was the corniest thing she had ever done. Alekses shook Xhenia's hand and looked her in the eyes.
"I'm...Alekses."
*Sniffs* This is only the beginning of a new chapter for these two. I'm sure this isn't the ending you were looking forward to, but this is one that will allow them to grow. Plus, you might see these two in the future.
