Julia hated to miss a meeting or any type of club business she was allowed in on, but she scheduled a visit with her mom twice a month and she promised herself she would never miss one. Vince wouldn't visit her because he was too busy and didn't think Kimberly would want to see him and Eli definitely wouldn't because he hated her. Julia never wanted Kimberly Madden to feel like she was alone in the world. People could judge her and say they didn't understand all they wanted, but that was her mom.
Julia smiled when she walked into the visitor's room and saw her mom sitting at one of the tables. She looked tired and ragged and she had her hands cuffed too tight, but Julia still thought her mom looked beautiful. She was always gonna be a momma's girl.
Kimberly smiled and perked up at the sight of her daughter as she sat across from her, "Hey there, sweetheart."
Julia felt all of the stress roll off her shoulders as she returned the soft expression. Her mother's presence always had a way of making her feel happy and like nothing else mattered. It had been that way ever since she was a kid.
"Hey, momma. How are you holding up?"
Kimberly inched her hands closer to Julia's as much as she could, "I'm doing just fine."
"You ready to get the hell out of this place soon?"
"Yeah. I am. How's my other baby doing? How are you doing?" Kimberly looked eager to hear about Eli.
"Eli's fine...Mom you gotta know that he's still angry. He doesn't have the full picture here. I can't promise a good family reunion when you're out," Julia warned her.
"I know," Kimberly let out a shaky breath, "I know it's gonna take a while, but he's my little boy."
"Look, maybe I should just tell him. It wouldn't hurt," Julia lowered her voice.
Kimberly leaned forward, "No. You can't tell anyone, you know that. I've done my time, it's over."
Julia saw how distressed her mom was getting and changed the subject, "Things are good. Tara came back. I told you about her. She's working at the hospital now. Jax's ex had the baby. His name is Abel. He's doing good. Vince is...Vince. Still a hardass and annoying, but I can tell he misses you."
Kimberly immediately relaxed, "That's wonderful. How are things with you and Jax?"
Julia looked confused, "Fine. What are you getting at?"
"Oh come on, sweetie. Every time you've come to visit over the years you talk about him. I haven't even met him but I feel like I have. 'Jax this' and 'Jax that'. It's adorable, baby."
Julia sighed and crossed her arms as her defenses went up, "Look, even if that did mean something, it would never work out."
"What do you mean? Of course it would."
"Mom, let's face it. With everything that happened to me...I'm too screwed up to be with anyone. He deserves someone stable and kind and good. Someone who isn't fucked in the head like me."
"You stop that right now, young lady," her mother turned stern, "You are beautiful and amazing and you've got a good heart. I know it and if he's as smart as you make him out to be then he knows it too. So suck it up like a big girl and stop ruining both of your chances at happiness."
"God, you didn't have to pull out the mom voice on me. Get that enough from Gemma as it is."
"How is Gemma?" Kimberly remembered the woman vaguely from before she was with Ryan and was still hanging around her brother and the club.
