Six Years Ago...
She stared out her seaweed window, anxiety welling up in her. It was only two weeks ago did she challenge her mother for the throne. Princess Azure knew her mother was too old to take on any more Queenly duties. But she couldn't let her sister Splash get the throne. She wouldn't even know where to start and would be brain dead.
Azure's thoughts stirred as she clenched her talons. I don't want to kill mother. I'm not ready for the throne yet. I'm still six... but mom needs someone to take on the throne for her. At least she'll die with honor and pride.
Azure's bedroom door flung open as Conch came into the room. He bowed toward her.
Queen Tropical wants to see you, Princess, at the Shore Palace. It's time for your duel, Conch flashed. I hope you do well.
Conch was a good friend of Azure's. He was always there to comfort her whenever she got yelled by mother. Azure flashed a, I'll be there soon. Conch nodded and the turquoise SeaWing left the room.
Azure got up from her desk and opened the door. She hesitated, she wanted to cancel the duel, but she had to go.
This kingdom will fall apart without a strong queen, Azure thought. She opened the door and swam through the halls of the Kingdom of Sea. Strange she wants me at the above-water palace. When Azure had arrived at the Shore Palace pavilion, almost everyone in the kingdom was there. Azure flew up and walked to the center of the pavilion. All the SeaWings were whispering and muttering. Azure felt anxious. But when she spotted one of her caretakers, Emerald, she felt a teeny-bit confident.
Is this what I really want? Should I decline the challenge? No, it's already started and I've made up my choices already. I need to be prepared for the weight of the responsibilities of the Kingdom of Sea.
Then the glorious blue-faded purple dragon walked up. Her beautiful gold bioluminescent scales. Her look of authority in her dark blue eyes. It was Queen Tropical.
"Salutations, my daughter. I will fight this battle with honor and I will not go down so easily," Tropical spoke. "Narwhal spears will be available in use, but any other unauthorized weapons will be taken away."
Although the queen was a kind dragon at heart, she could be terrifying. Azure shuffled her feet unsteadily. A moss-green SeaWing came up to Queen Tropical's side as she handed him her jewelry. He passed her a narwhal spear and walked away to put the jewelry away.
An indigo SeaWing with pink bioluminescent scales came up on the Tall Pillar and spoke loudly, "In this traditional Royal Challenge, whoever is left standing and survives will be or stay Queen of the SeaWings. She will treat this high-level authority with respect and responsibility. So let this challenge . . . begin."
Tropical did not waste another second as she came hurling toward her daughter. Azure shrieked as she flung her wings back, jolting away from her mother's claws and teeth. The queen stood her stance as she examined her target for her next attack.
Now I have the chance.
Azure took the time to grab one of the narwhal spears. She ran to attack her mother, but was easily flung by her mother's tail. Queen Tropical flew up and darted toward Azure. Azure thought she was dead until her instincts made her get up and roll out of the way.
She clenched her spear and pounced on her mother. Azure clawed out her mother's gills knowing one of the weak spots of a SeaWing. Tropical yelled out as she twisted her arm to use her spear to knock Azure off. The young azure dragon tumbled off as her mother regained balance. Tropical took hold of Azure's jaw while she prepared to stab her. Azure's face was bleeding as her eyes widened at the impact.
She brought all her strength to her hind legs and kicked her mother in the stomach. The queen fell down with a loud thump as Azure grabbed her spear.
"I'm sorry, mother. I love you," Azure spoke so softly so that only Tropical could hear.
"I love you too, Azure," her mother spoke with a smile. "Take care." Azure clenched the spear in her talons and stabbed Tropical's throat. Azure's eyes were watery and filled with tears. She stared at her mother's dead body as she gently closed her eyes.
I did it. I defeated mother, Azure thought with disbelief. I . . . killed her.
Only after a few minutes did she hear all the cheering in the background, "Azure! Azure! Azure! Azure!"
She dropped the spear and walked away from her mother's dead body. Azure stared at her talons as she shook blood off them. She looked around all the SeaWings cheering.
Azure smiled slightly at all this praise. She saw Emerald and Conch, cheering the loudest. She saw her sister, Splash, jealous of Azure. Suddenly, a huge shockwave hit her entire body, like a dragon sinking in a pool of electric eels.
So I've found you... a deep voice spoke. The voice drowned out all the other noise happening around Azure. She didn't know where it came from.
W—who are you?!
You'll find out pretty soon. I guess for now, you can call me The Second Coming of Twilight.
The what?
The deep voice laughed manically. Oh, little Azure. I can't wait to toy with you.A/N's: That was a long prologue... oh well! Hoped you all liked it!
