"Congratulationss" was all in the air. We had won this tournament. The happiness was surging high. "we are going on an unofficial dinner tonight." Rohit announced and everybody started looking at me.
I mean I get it. I was more from the management's side then from the member's so yeah, I completely get the concern. "Can I join too?" I questioned and all of their expressions softened. "What do you mean? There is no team dinner without you." Rohit said smiling.
"I won't go." It was shubman. "it is not an official dinner though. It is just gonna be us." Rishabh tried to knock some sense into him. "it's not that, I am just too tired today. I will join some other day. I wanna sleep."
Nobody could say anything at all. And with that he went away, to sleep maybe. Everybody looked like they had something to say but they all decided to keep quiet. I don't think any of them felt like going to the dinner now but we still went.
"why are you looking like that?" Rishabh asked at the dinner. "Like what?" "well, like you almost won something but couldn't really win." I don't know what he was talking about but it sounded very right.
And he must have felt that too because he smiled. "shubman has always been like that." I looked at him at that. "how do you know its about him?" it was a stupid question but I still decided to ask it.
"Everybody is smiling and talking, eating and drinking but all of them feel just like you do. Of course, it's about him." "And Ishan?" with Rishabh I had never spoken about Ishan before. I mean he was just as sensitive to the topic as shubman if not more.
"He told you anything about him?" he asked. "he was talking about how he met with ishan. About the Under nineteen team." "he was definitely not talking about the team, was he? Even my parts would be added where Ishan was, in shubman's story, right?" he said laughing.
The best part was, he was totally right. Shubman narrated that story just like Rishabh predicted it. "I am right, am I not?" "yes." I smiled. "shubman is stupid and Ishan is blind." And I get it, I don't know either of them that well but I get it.
"you talked with him recently?" "after that video call you mean? Nope, I did not." "he did?" I questioned again. "Suhani why do you think he did not join us today?" "I don't know." I mean I really did not know.
"he is waiting. For the call." Okay... now I get it. Shubman was waiting for Ishan to call. He called when they were going for the tournament so he will definitely call when they won the said tournament right? So, he was waiting.
Okay this should make me feel better but it really didn't. "don't make that face again." "why can't Ishan just talk to shubman? What is the problem with that? It is like he is deliberately distancing himself from everyone."
"you are right. He is doing exactly that." Oh god I was not ready for it. No, this can't be. If he was really doing that, he wouldn't call at all right. "do you think he can do that?" is this person a psychic or something.
"Suhani use your brain. All the members loves him so much and stuff but do you think he doesn't love all of them just as much?" that makes sense. "but if he loves everybody so much why would he even think about doing that."
"Because he loves them so much." "I don't get it." But Rishabh stood up and left. I couldn't shake the feeling of missing an important point for the rest of the evening. I kept storming my brain for things I didn't even know.
I tried asking him what he had meant a few days after the incident but he refused to answer. Every time I asked him that he would just shake his head and leave. This was fucking up with my brain a bit more than it should have.
Yesterday when I was sitting chilling on the lawn. Thinking, obviously. I saw Rishabh, standing at the edge of the property seemingly admiring a tree. "hey." He greeted me when he noticed my presence.
