Chapter 64: Pehli Rasoi
The morning after their wedding, Aashna woke up feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. It was her first day in Virat’s home as his wife, and today she would perform the traditional "Pehli Rasoi" – the first meal cooked by the new bride for her husband's family. She wanted everything to be perfect.
She glanced over at Virat, who was still asleep, looking peaceful and content. She couldn’t help but smile as she remembered the events of the previous day. Everything had been so magical, and now it was time to start their journey together in their new home.
Aashna quietly slipped out of bed and headed to the kitchen. She had planned to make something simple yet delicious: aloo paratha with homemade yogurt and a side of mango pickle. It was a dish that was loved by most people and carried a comforting, homely vibe.
As she started preparing the ingredients, Saroj, Virat’s mother, entered the kitchen, her face lighting up with a warm smile. “Good morning, Aashna. How are you feeling?”
“Good morning, Mom,” Aashna replied, feeling a bit more at ease. “I’m a bit nervous, but excited too.”
Saroj placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You’re going to do great. And remember, it’s not just about the food. It’s about the love and effort you put into it.”
Aashna nodded, feeling grateful for Saroj’s support. She set to work, rolling out the dough and preparing the filling for the parathas. The aroma of spices and fresh ingredients soon filled the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Virat woke up to the delicious smell wafting through the house. He stretched and smiled, knowing exactly what was happening. He got up and made his way to the kitchen, eager to see his wife in action.
When he entered the kitchen, he found Aashna expertly flipping parathas on the tawa, her brow slightly furrowed in concentration. “Morning, chef,” he teased, leaning against the doorframe.
Aashna looked up and smiled, a hint of relief in her eyes. “Morning, sleepyhead. I’m almost done here.”
Virat walked over and kissed her on the forehead. “It smells amazing. I’m sure it’s going to be perfect.”
As Aashna finished making the parathas, Saroj helped her set the table. They arranged the freshly made aloo parathas, a bowl of homemade yogurt, and a jar of spicy mango pickle. The table looked inviting, and Aashna hoped everyone would enjoy the meal.
Virat’s father, Prem, and his younger brother, Vikas, soon joined them at the table, their faces lighting up at the sight of the food. Kiara, still groggy from sleep, wandered into the kitchen and was delighted to see her favorite dish.
“Parathas! Mommy, you made my favorite!” Kiara exclaimed, climbing onto her chair.
Aashna laughed. “Yes, Kiki. I hope you like them.”
Everyone settled down, and Virat served the food, making sure Aashna got the first piece. As they took their first bites, Aashna watched nervously, hoping for a positive reaction.
“This is delicious, Aashna,” Saroj said, her eyes twinkling with approval. “You’ve done a wonderful job.”
Prem nodded in agreement. “Absolutely. These parathas are perfect.”
Vikas, never one to hold back, added, “You’ve set the bar high, Bhabhi. This is amazing!”
Aashna felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over her. “I’m so glad you all like it. I wanted it to be special.”
Virat squeezed her hand under the table, his eyes filled with pride and love. “You did great, Aashna. I knew you would.”
The breakfast was filled with laughter and light-hearted conversation. Aashna felt welcomed and at ease, surrounded by her new family. Kiara, happily munching on her paratha, added to the joyous atmosphere with her innocent chatter.
After breakfast, Aashna and Saroj cleaned up the kitchen together. Saroj shared stories from her own early days of marriage, making Aashna feel even more connected to her new family.
Later in the day, Aashna received a flurry of messages and calls from her own family, checking in and sharing their love. She felt a deep sense of gratitude for the wonderful people in her life.
As the day drew to a close, Aashna and Virat found a quiet moment to themselves. They sat on the balcony, watching the sunset and reflecting on the events of the past few days.
“Today was perfect,” Aashna said, resting her head on Virat’s shoulder. “I’m so happy to be a part of your family.”
“We’re all happy to have you, Aashna,” Virat replied, wrapping his arm around her. “You’ve brought so much joy into our lives.”
They sat in comfortable silence, watching the sky change colors as the sun dipped below the horizon. Aashna felt a sense of peace and contentment, knowing that she was surrounded by love and support.
“Here’s to many more beautiful days together,” Virat said, raising an imaginary toast.
“To many more,” Aashna agreed, smiling.
As they headed back inside, hand in hand, they knew that their journey together was just beginning. With love, laughter, and the support of their wonderful families, they were ready to face whatever the future held. And that was all they needed.
