the street lights turned off. we were now running in a sea of nothingness. i could only trust her presence.
"COME ON HURRY!" she shouts.
"wait grace." i slow down, her hand gripping my wrist tightly.
"WHAT? WHY ARENT YOU RUNNING? WERE GONNA MISS IT"
she presses down harshly on my wrists.
i rip them away from her hands.
"WEVE MISSED THE BUS" i shout at her in frustration. frustration at her, and myself.
she immediately stops walking and lowers her hands.
"what?"
"IM SORRY BUT IM FREAKING OUT. MY PHONES DEAD, WE MISSED THE LAST BUS AND THERES NO WAY WE CAN GET HOME. AND ITS RAINING." i vent.
....
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME? EVIE? WHY DIDNT YOU SAY EARLIER"
"BECAUSE I FORGOT! TO BE HONEST I HAD A BAD NIGHT, BUT THATS IRRELEVANT BECAUSE ITS RAINING SO HARD I CANT SEE OR HEAR YOU, AND WERE PROBABLY GOING TO GET KIDNAPPED" i was now out of breath.
we stand in silence as my words linger in the air. she looks around, her hands on her hips as she just stares at me.
"ITS FINE. LETS JUST THINK."
....
to be honest, i did no thinking in that time. i had already accepted my fate.
the loud rain painted the air, my ears completely blocking out anything that wasn't the rain or my thoughts. it was so loud and heavy i couldn't keep my eyes open.
"JESUS CHRIST, WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?" grace spits, her hands on her head running through her curly and now wet hair.
"LETS JUST WALK?" i shout, rain entering my mouth.
"WHICH WAY?"
i bite my nails and turn around. i had no idea where we were at this point. it was pitch black.
i fumble my eyebrows, my hand rubbing my eyes as i realise the situation we're in. i squat down and think.
i put my head in my hands in an effort to not cry.
grace squints her eyes as a bright light travels towards us.
"WAIT EVIE, THERES A CAR!"
i immediately stand up and turn around.
"oh jesus. we're gonna die" i mutter. looking her in the eyes again.
"NO ITS FINE, LETS HITCHIKE!" grace shouts before running to the end of the sidewalk, her hand out in an attempt to stop the car.
i run after her, tugging her shirt and shouting at her to stop.
"GRACE SERIOUSLY ID RATHER WALK THEN GET IN THIS RANDOM PERSONS CAR."
she shrugs me off as the car pulls up. the bright lights impair my ability to see as they inch closer and closer. we both squint our eyes.
the car then gets close enough to us that we face their window, which was blacked out.
the window rolls down.
my heart drops as i see who's face it was. i recognised them immediately despite the rain.
"NOAH?" grace shouts.
noahs pov
(back in the hallway after evie had just finished drying his shirt)
