Morning light streamed through the kitchen window as Tim padded in, yawning and rubbing sleep from his eyes. The comforting aroma of pancakes filled the air, and he grinned as he spotted Lucy in front of the stove. She wore a tiny thin pyjama set that left little to the imagination, her hair cascading down her back in soft waves. As she flipped a pancake with practised ease, he couldn't help but admire the curve of her waist and the delicate slope of her shoulders. Sliding up behind her, Tim wrapped his arms around her middle, his hands coming to rest on her hips. His breath warmed her neck as he whispered, "Mmm, someone's been busy."
He felt her body tense momentarily before relaxing into his embrace, a small smile playing on her lips. In his mind, he marvelled at how far they'd come in such a short time – from strangers to confidants, and now lovers. *I'll cherish every second with her*, he thought, pressing a gentle kiss to the crook of her neck. Lucy giggled, turning her head to look at him with adoring eyes. "I thought I'd surprise you," she said, her voice husky from sleep. Tim tightened his hold on her, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Best surprise ever," he replied, his own voice thick with emotion. Together, they cooked breakfast, their laughter mingling with the sizzle of the pancakes – a harmony of happiness and hope.
Tim eagerly dug into his stack of fluffy pancakes, drenched in syrup and sprinkled with powdered sugar. He couldn't help but notice that Lucy picked at hers, her appetite still feeble from months of struggle. Determination set in his features as he watched her, his heart aching for the battle she fought daily. Without a word, he slid his plate closer and gently lifted her off her chair, settling her on his lap. Lucy blushed, surprise flickering in her eyes, but she didn't protest. Tim wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her close as she sat sideways on his lap. He picked up a forkful of pancake, holding it to her lips.
"Come on, Luce," he coaxed gently, "You need to eat." His voice was tender yet firm, reflecting the delicate balance of concern and encouragement he knew was necessary. Lucy looked at him, uncertainty warring with trust, before parting her lips and taking a small bite. He smiled warmly, his eyes filled with pride and love. In his mind, he silently vowed to support her every step of the way, helping her overcome this eating disorder together. They spent the morning like this, feeding each other and sharing small, intimate moments. Each bite Lucy took was a victory, and Tim was determined to celebrate each and every one.
The morning routine took on a new rhythm as Tim and Lucy prepared for their respective days ahead. Lucy stood in front of the bathroom mirror, her hands deftly working a brush through her long, brown locks. Tim appeared behind her, his eyes reflecting his desire as he pressed his lips to her neck, sucking tentatively. Lucy's breath hitched, her hands momentarily stilling in their task as she leaned into his embrace. He wrapped his arms around her waist, his hands finding their way to her abdomen, tracing lazy circles over her soft skin. In the mirror, their eyes met, and Tim saw the mix of longing and trepidation in hers.
He knew she was still adjusting to the new dynamic between them, the weight of her past heavy on her shoulders. With a gentle nibble, he whispered, "You look stunning." Lucy blushed, a genuine smile blooming across her face. She turned to him, placing her hands on his chest. "Thank you," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. Tim could feel her heart racing beneath his fingertips, mirroring his own. Their lips met in a tender kiss, a promise of what lay ahead once they returned home. They finished getting ready, stealing touches and glances throughout, each one a testament to the growing bond between them.
Tim couldn't contain his excitement as they arrived at the police station – today was the day Lucy would learn of her promotion- it had been decided months ago. He watched as she walked in- completely oblivious to the surprise awaiting her. He knew she deserved this – she'd worked tirelessly. Tim felt a swell of pride. He headed to his own office, his mind buzzing with plans to celebrate her achievement later that evening. Meanwhile, Lucy was summoned to Sergeant Grey's office via the intercom, her heart pounding in her chest. She hadn't expected this, not so soon. Nerves and anticipation danced in her stomach as she made her way down the hallway, her palms slick with sweat. When she entered, she found Sergeant Grey smiling warmly behind his desk, a file in his hand. "Take a seat, Detective," he said, and Lucy's world seemed to stop spinning.
"Detective?" she asked with confusion. Lucy's confusion was evident as she repeated the title, her smile growing wider with each passing second. "Detective?" she asked, her voice laced with disbelief and joy. Sergeant Grey nodded, a proud smile tugging at his lips. "Congratulations, Lucy. Your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed," he said, pushing the file towards her. As she reached out to accept it, her hands trembled slightly – a testament to the emotions coursing through her veins. In her mind, she recalled Tim's constant support and encouragement during the gruelling process, and she knew he'd be over the moon upon hearing the news. She couldn't wait to share this moment with him. "Thank you, sir," she managed, her eyes shining with gratitude. The weight of the folder in her hands felt surreal, a tangible symbol of her newfound status and responsibility. As she left the office, her thoughts raced with excitement.
Tim sat at his desk, engrossed in paperwork when he heard steps growing closer. Glancing up, he saw Lucy sprinting towards him, her eyes sparkling with excitement. In an instant, she launched herself into his arms, and he caught her without hesitation, lifting her off the ground and spinning her around in a joyful whirlwind. The other officers in the bustling station cast curious glances their way, some smirking at the display of affection, but Tim didn't care – his world revolved around this woman who'd fought so hard to be where she was today. Lucy's laughter filled his ears, her arms tightening around his neck as he twirled her. He could feel her heart pounding in rhythm with his own, and when he finally set her down, he leaned in close, whispering, "You did it, Luce. I'm so damn proud of you." She smiled, tears threatening to spill over. "I couldn't have done it without you," she replied, her voice thick with emotion. Tim brushed a stray strand of hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. "You've always had it in you, Lucy. I was just there to remind you." Their eyes locked, a silent promise passing between them. They'd face whatever challenges came their way together – as partners, in love and in work.
