Mirn’s POV

It’s race day in Budapest, so the crowds are really tight with locals and tourists. I had to run a couple of streets to find Hungarian chicken nuggets for Gavion; as usual, he couldn’t start the race without eating nuggets.

The team ordered online but the restaurant cancelled at the last minute for unknown reasons. Grabe, very unreliable. No one in the team has the time to find his chicken nuggets; Gavion just accepted that he won’t be eating one today, but I just couldn’t bear the thought of seeing him sad—actually kagabi pa talaga siya wala sa mood lalo na’t hindi niya nakuha ang pole position sa qualifying round.

He’ll be starting with position 10 merely because of an engine failure. Marcus also has an engine failure and is in position 12. Not a very good standing for Ferrari and for Gavion as he has been leading for the driver’s championship since Race 1.

He has been ranting about Ferrari’s strategies since. He even expressed his desire to leave Ferrari but he signed a 10-year contract with them. Kaya ayon, hindi pa siya maaaring umalis. He felt like Ferrari’s just using him and Marcus for money. After all, he’s the best driver right now with 4 consecutive championships. He still has 6 years left with them. He somehow regretted it but he just couldn’t breach it.

Oh, there! Finally! I reached the Ferrari garage after bumping into several people. I found Gavion talking to the engineers and he seemed pissed.

“No, there is no turning on the radio today! I’ll do what I want to do! I am tired of listening to the strategies that just keep me and Marcus at risk. And for the record, do something about the pit.” His voice was calm yet his face says it all.

“Hey, Gavie!”

“Mere. . .” He slowly called my name. “Where have you been? I was looking for you.”

“Right, I bought you chicken nuggets.” “Here, eat this before the race starts. Sorry, it took me so long.”

“Wait,” he looked at me and realized that I was sweating. “Did you run?”

I didn’t want to create an issue. Some even think we’re together. He didn’t acknowledge nor deny it, which is worse. Ayoko rin naman na pangunahan ang lahat. I just want to be present.

“Sorry,” tipid siyang ngumiti. “But here. . .”

“You don’t have to get the nuggets. I told you it’s okay,” he said, yet he opened it and started eating. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure it won’t go to waste. This really made me feel better.”

“See? So it’s worth it.” I grinned.

He laughed a little. “I know, but still, don’t tire yourself that much for me, okay? Your dad might get mad at me if they learned that you’re buying chicken nuggets for me instead of photographing.”

I chuckled, “Surely, they won’t, if you win today.”

“I’ll try.” He heaved. “It’s difficult with the condition of my car.”
