"our gate isn't up yet, so we have time to kill," quackity reports to the others after coming back from wherever he just walked off to. karl can see all the gate signs from where he is standing but, for some reason, quackity needed to get a closer look. he reminds karl of an overbearing parent taking their children abroad for the first time. it's endearing.
"can we go get snacks?" karl asks, glancing around them. there are a few places they could sit and get a proper meal, but it's a bit early for that.
quackity, who has taken control of the travelling ordeal since before they'd even left the house, approves the request before taking them over to one of the well-known convenience stores that sells anything from milk cartons to kid's toys, which also happens to be the busiest store at the airport since it's known for being stupidly cheap.
the boys all split up to find their own things with karl heading straight for the juice, manoeuvring through the cluttered space with his hand luggage slung over his arm. he isn't usually a huge fan of juice but he has a craving for it now, and his eyes trail back and forth over the array of options before he decides on some tropical fruit option.
he shifts his attention to the candy and grabs a packet of haribos before deciding to go and find his friends again.
a half-lap around the small store leads him to sapnap, who is standing in front of a wall of books with his hands on his hips, eyes tracing the rows. the brunette nears him from behind and leans around to press a quick kiss to the ravenette's cheek, startling him out of his thoughts. "what're you up to?" he asks as he moves to stand beside his boyfriend.
"trying to find something to read," sapnap answers obviously, attention falling back to the options before him.
"since when do you read?" karl wonders as he passes the candy to his boyfriend. part of him just wants to see if sapnap will carry it for him without asking any questions. another part of him only picked it up for the ravenette in the first place.
"since i'm going on vacation," sapnap answers like it's perfectly sensible. "everyone knows that you have to read when you're on holiday. it's like, tradition. plus, it'll keep me busy on the plane."
karl nods along to the other's logic as he lets his own gaze fall to the book wall. he thinks he would probably enjoy reading if he had the time to get into it, maybe when he makes partner or finds an alternative way to lessen his workload. in fact, there are a few hobbies he'd like to have a go at, especially art-oriented.
"well i'll go find q and leave you to pick one," karl smiles, kissing his boyfriend's cheek again. as nice as it sounds, karl hasn't got time to start getting into hobbies. sapnap pulls him back for a proper kiss before tapping his hip and sending him on his merry way.
karl finds quackity by the chips, and he smiles to himself as he walks past and obnoxiously hits his friend with his large carry-on as he goes. he's unable to contain his laugh when quackity stumbles before turning to pin him with a playful glare. "idiot."
karl only grins in response, shifting to stand close to his friend's side so they're not taking up too much space. they stay silent as quackity picks out his snacks, the pair of them being more than happy to simply exist in the other's space. when you have been joined at the hip for most of your lives, you don't need mindless chatter to fill the space.
