"i never want to go shopping again."

karl can't help but laugh. after the three of them lying in a rejuvenating silence for the last half hour, the random comment is much more amusing than it needs to be. it's evident that they're all worn out after their busy day.

sapnap is curled on his side with his book held in front of him, seeming completely unaware of the world around him as he reads, and karl is lying beside him in their shared bed. he'd been scrolling through tiktok with his volume low but he drops his phone to the side in response to quackity talking.

the ravenette is on the bed beside them, staring up at the ceiling with a bored pout, starfished across the covers. "tired?" karl asks.

quackity just hums. "do you think it's weird to have a bath at a hotel?" he asks after a few moments of silence before flopping his head onto the pillow to face karl.

"probably," karl answers.

they stare at one another from why they're lying on their respective beds for a few long moments before quackity nods. "i'm going to have a bath."

karl scoffs out a short laugh as the ravenette lifts himself out of bed and heads across the hotel room and into their singular bathroom. karl picks his phone back up and, upon seeing the low charge, leans over to plug it into the charger by his bedside. to keep him busy, he turns the other way to stare at sapnap while the ravenette reads, looking so at peace.

the sound of rain patters against the window and karl glances over at the increasing downpour. they'd luckily just missed it when they got home, and it seems to have only gotten worse over the last however long.

karl can't resist the urge to get up and move across the room to sit down in the chair that faces out the large window. he leans back into the cushioned material and watches the world outside.

"i'm getting in the bath!" quackity calls from the bathroom after a good few minutes, though the announcement wasn't in the slightest necessary as the bathroom door clicks shut.

"have fun!" karl shouts back just for the sake of it.

even with his head in his book, sapnap tacks on, "but not too much fun."

karl huffs out an amused breath at his boyfriend but his gaze stays on the window, watching the rain and imagining how cold it must feel out there. he can almost feel it on his arms, sinking down his skin like he's being pulled under.

he looks at the tall buildings around them and wonders if anyone else is watching the rain like he is. he wonders if anyone else feels almost connected to the weather. karl can't explain it, but something about the dampened streets and dark sky makes him think of himself and how he's felt since his father's death.

it reminds him of his dark thoughts. the way he constantly finds himself thinking about death, like he can't escape it. the thoughts are intrusive and they bring him a confusing mix of emotions.

the exposure from his father's passing made it a permanence in his mind, and karl wonders if he will have to learn to live with this feeling or if it might go one day.
