karl wasn't aware that he had slept in until he rolled over and saw the light spilling in under the curtain. looking beside him, he notices that sapnap isn't in bed and wonders why his boyfriend didn't wake him up like usual. a beat of fear passes over him before his brain wakes up enough to remember it's the weekend and he's flooded with instant relief. no work.

knowing that the temporary adrenaline will stop him from trying to go back to sleep, karl kicks his feet out of the covers and lifts up to stand in the dark room. he stretches, feeling how his muscles pop and relax.

the brunette steps out of their shared room and makes a quick pit stop in the bathroom to brush his teeth before heading down the hallway to the main area, where he spots quackity sitting in the kitchen and sapnap on the couch, looking down at his phone.

sapnap looks up and shoots him a smile that he replicates before heading into the kitchen to get a drink, where quackity also looks up at him. the ravenette seems startled by karl's presence, like he didn't hear him walking in. "you alright?" karl asks in greeting.

"i'm good," quackity nods completely unconvincingly. he gestures to the open laptop in front of him and adds, "i'm catching up on work."

"maybe you should both come work with me," sapnap jokes from the lounge, and karl has a perfect view of how quackity jumps in surprise before turning to face the ravenette. "then you won't be so overworked and might actually enjoy it."

karl has lost track of how many times sapnap has jokingly said this.

"when the hell did you come back in?" quackity asks. his tone sounds harsh but it's obviously just a response to his recent fear of being startled by both his friends. "i thought you went to play undertale?"

sapnap shrugs, sitting up on the couch edge as if he's about to stand. "i saw karl sleeping and came back like..." he checks the time on his phone, "forty minutes ago."

"you should've woken me up," karl says as he pulls out a glass from the cabinet, feeling unnecessarily guilty for putting back sapnap's plans even though he knows the ravenette won't be mad. "count on me to mess up your morning by sleeping in."

he instantly regrets his self-deprecating, almost attention-seeking response, and is quick to run the tap so no one can reply to him for at least a few seconds as he watches the glass fill with water.

when the glass is full, he flicks off the tap and turns around, catching eyes with sapnap as the ravenette says, "you needed it."

the cheeky smirk on the other's face brings a giggle out of karl, knowing his boyfriend is trying to tease him, and he shoots sapnap a playful glare as he replies, "wanker," and basks in the way sapnap laughs in response.

he does notice, however, that quackity doesn't laugh along as his attention remains stuck on his laptop, though the brunette takes note of how his friend's gaze flits up around the room every few moments.

sapnap pushes up off of the couch with an exaggerated groan. "i'm off to the underground then," he grins, thinking he's funny, and karl smiles when his boyfriend crosses the room to offer him a kiss first before seeing himself down the hallway.
