WILLIAM RILLER knew that his breakup shouldn't have been the end of the world, but he felt like it was.

William's entire life has been the accumulation of routines, and plans. He had lived in the same house for years, went to the same schools for years, and had been dedicating his time to his research for years. Will was a stranger to the concept of change. Until Christian Hagets broke up with him at his front door on a humid summer morning.

William couldn't believe that his boyfriend of eight years had let go of him so easily. Christian had sat him down, held his hand, and told Will that he couldn't be with him anymore because he didn't feel loved.

That was when William learned that it was a terrible feeling to have someone tell you that they couldn't feel your love, even if you tried to pour all of your love into them.

William and Christian had met in the ninth grade. They had gone to the same schools all their lives, but their love blossomed when Christian admitted that he had a crush on William during their first astronomy club trip. They had a lot in common, and even their differences were quite complimentary.

William and Christian both loved astronomy, reading, and mathematics. They bonded over these things, but also the fact that William could sing, and Christian could play the guitar. Or how William was a great writer, and how Christian could bring his writings to life with the flick of his brush. They were complimentary, and that's how they went strong for eight years. But even though they loved each other for so long, Christian had easily found love elsewhere.

William's heart was broken when his twin sister Willow told him that she had already seen Christian with another man at an art gallery last week. He found it ridiculous, because he didn't believe in love at first sight. William believed that love took time and commitment,  and so there was no way that Christian loved this man he had just met, more than he loved William.

So, this is how William ended up splayed out on the grass, staring up at the night sky. It was something that he and Christian would often do together, because of William's dream profession. William wanted to be an astronomer.

The pitch-black night encapsulated William's body as he traced out the stars with his index finger. Whenever William and Christian went stargazing together they often intertwined their hands and traced the galaxy with the other, but now William's right hand was cold and empty.

William's right hand gripped the grass as his eyes started to burn. He held his breath–willing himself not to cry, but he couldn't help it. How could someone say that they couldn't feel your love, after years of loving them? How could they move on so quickly, and leave you to battle the unwanted change all alone?

He didn't want to believe it. Who could Christian have left him for? Was he better-looking? Smarter? Sweeter? It left him with a boiling pit of jealousy in his stomach. Whoever that man was, he loathed him.

William sat up and wiped his eyes. As he looked back up toward the sky, his eyesight was blinded by a particular star that burned bright. He was familiar with this star, because it seemed to shoot across the sky as if it were dancing. The streaks of light caressed the galaxy like it was the most entertaining star in the world.  And, the dancing star did just that at such a vulnerable moment. It shot across the sky with a jovial fever, and for the first time, William cleared his throat to make his wish.

Although the wish that echoed in his mind was childish, he wanted Christian to know what jealousy felt like.

"I wish I had someone new to make Christian realize that he needs me–", he hiccuped,  "—and that I am capable of loving someone."

William knew it was a stupid wish, but Willow often told him that sometimes things needed to be said out loud in order to resolve your feelings.

The only problem was that William didn't expect the star to curve from its pathway in the night sky, and shoot straight toward him in a blinding light.

William fell to the ground and attempted to crawl away pathetically, but the light emitted from the being was so bright that he quickly shoved his face into his arms. The brightness easily lit up the area, so much so that the shadows of the night suddenly mimicked the glow in the morning.

As the light finally dimmed, William uncovered his eyes to be met with the face of a young man. Some freckles danced across his face, much like the star that danced across the night sky, and his blond hair still glowed with slight luminescence. He stared down at William with a warm smile, and his eyes were bouncing with excitement.

"Hi," he breathed. "I'm Orion, and your wish is my command."

William stared at Orion blankly as he could feel panic creeping up his chest, towards his throat.

Maybe William's breakup truly was the end of the world, because he currently felt like he was losing his mind.
