WILLIAM AND ORION sat at their designated spots on the floor.
Neither man spoke or moved. They sat with their legs out, and their backs resting against the bottom of William's couch. The only sound that could be heard was the constant dripping of William's tap and the faint sound of his TV. But, it was peaceful.
William's head lulled back as he gazed at Orion staring off into space. "Do you... want to talk about it?"
Orion sheepishly scratched the back of his neck. He wasn't sure if William wanted to talk about the future or the past, but he knew he didn't want to come off as pushy, so he went with the latter.
"The situation with Christian?"
"No," William rushed, "about you and me."
Orion turned to to face William. He tried to hide his growing smile, but he was not successful.
It was clear that Orion's absence had caused William to have a change in heart, and Orion was pleased. To know that he had a chance with William just because William liked things about him that were beyond the fact that he was able to grant wishes, made Orion want to shoot across the sky a billion times over.
He found it difficult to care about anything that happened in the past, because in the end William chose him, and he chose William.
That was all that the man had wanted.
"Yeah, let's talk," Orion said softly.
"Okay," William added slowly, trying his best to drag the conversation on without getting to the point. "Let's talk."
Orion stared at William with an amused smirk. It was like everything had been reversed. He was no longer the one who was nervous around William. William was nervous around him.
Orion's hand gently met William's tapping fingers that were thumping the ground. He smiled at William once more hoping that it would ease his anxiety, and it did. William finally sat up straighter and opened his mouth to speak.
"I just hope you know that I'm really really–"
"Will," Orion exasperated, "you don't have to apologize. Yeah, your decision was... a little rash. And kind of mean. And possibly a little insensi–"
"Orion." He whined.
The blond chuckled. "But, I know what kind of person you are. I could never hate you for being confused or afraid to move on."
William hummed, averting his gaze to the intertwined hands on the floor before he looked back up at Orion with a genuine smile.
"I just want you to know that I'm...not confused anymore. I do genuinely want to try being with you and getting to know you." William paused as he tried to search for the right words, "But, I also don't think I want to put a label on us just yet."
William bit his lip as soon as he had finished his sentence. He didn't want Orion to feel discouraged, or rejected, because that wasn't the case at all. He liked Orion a lot, but he felt as if they needed time to just be with each other more before they put a label on it.
William didn't expect Orion to laugh, but it made him let out a breath of relief.
"That's what you were so nervous to tell me?" Orion chuckled. "I completely understand that Will. You just left an eight-year relationship."
"And you're okay with that? Not putting a label on us just yet?"
"Well, do I get to stick around and spend time with you just like I used to?"
William nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! You can live here too!"
"Then I'm okay with that." Orion concluded.
William smiled at him fondly as Orion squeezed his hand over his own.
