Chapter 7: Day of the Dance

The formal is now today, with so many things going on, as far as the girls hurrying to get ready and the guys groaning downstairs looking at the time trying to get the girls to come on already. Brooke and Selena both just roll their eyes as they giggle and try on each others make up to see what would look best with their outfit. The boys are just there dressed in their regular day to day wear not really looking to impress  anybody though they did try some type of way.

"Oh come on, we are going to miss out on the dance and the blizzard will be over with by the time you two finish," Henry stated as he came to the door of the room Selena was staying in.

"Henry just be patient alright you know how women are needing to take their time to put on a face," Austin said teasingly.

"I'll kick both of your asses when I am done if you two keep going on with this," Selena turned around and looked at them both with a glare that could melt ice, and cut steal.

I, however, knew not to pester them, though mainly because I was still worried about Brooke's parents, they said everything was alright, but it felt as though something was off. The only thing I could think of was that they got found out and went into hiding, but nothing would have got me ready for what was going to happen.

"James hurry up man first the girls now you come on dude I'm trying to get jiggy with these girls," Henry said as Austin began laughing. Selena walked over to him quietly before slapping him in the back of the head.

"Don't ever say get jiggy with that was the cringiest damn thing you could have ever said," Selena said laughing. I smiled at my friends as we began to leave before my mom stopped us to take pictures of the group. She was smiling as she kept taking more than what was needed having us try different poses with each other. I had to put a stop to it when she had us doing Charlie's Angels, 

"Alright mom that's enough we gotta get going," I said smiling as he began to head out the door. She handed me the keys and gave me a hug as we piled into the car and began to drive over to the school gymnasium. There were balloons of different shades of pink and red, seems they were decorating for Valentine's since they couldn't get much on notice. Pulling into the parkway we saw some friends we all knew saying hi to them and even going in ready for this to begin.

We spent majority of the time sitting down and eating and by eating Henry was the only one grabbing food even though he kept saying, "Just one more plate and I'll go out and show these ladies my moves," with me and Austin looking at each other smiling at each other. Looking out over the dance floor I could see Selena dancing with Brooke as she was smiling getting lost in the music. Time seemed to slow down as I looked at her, my hands began to get clammy and then she looked at me. I turned away to make it look like I wasn't looking at her though with out notice I could hear her voice with what I thought was in my head but she was actually there.

"Do you wanna come dance with me or not?," she asked me as she grabbed my hand before I could even answer. Pulling me to my feet we walked out to the dance floor and right when we began to dance to the up beat song it changed suddenly, to a song that was on my playlist for when I did my shower concerts. Infinitely Falling by Fly By Midnight, it was sort of a song for couples though wasn't too slow. 

"I love this song," Selena said as she grabbed my hand and started dancing to the rhythm and beat. I joined her as I smiled admitting I did as well, "That makes both of us," I told her smiling at her and she smiled back. He jumped together holding hands as I twirled her around, I felt like a normal teenager in this moment with her. How did I never notice how beautiful she was, or how she smelled like citrus, was it due to the animal urge of wanting what Austin said, recalling the memory.

"It's called Soul Lining, its a special bond between us with an animal spirit and are warrior of nature, you make eye contact with the person and it feels as though you're on air like you're breathing for not only for yourself but for them it strengthens your power physically and spiritually, though it'll weaken you, as you feel every ounce of pain they feel emotionally and physically and if they die you will too on the inside," 

"Is that what happened between you and.....,"

"I don't like talking about it but yes I yearn for her everyday and everyday I feel the pain of her dying,"

Is this what it feels like to be Soul Lining is this what I am feeling for her, as we stared into each other's eyes. Her eyes were as blue as a shining star that glistened and glossed over. Everything seemed to be going alright until I felt goosebumps sharpened through my back. It felt as though thousands of needles were getting pressed into my skin as I looked around, I could see Coach Arrow looking directly at me as his eyes glowed a yellow tint, until a kid crossed in my view and I lost sight of him. I began to walk off towards that direction before Selena grabbed my arm, "Where you going, you feeling alright," she asked.

"Yeah I'm good just need to use the restroom," I smiled as I headed off, not knowing why I keep lying to them as if I am able to do this on my own. I don't want to end up like Alexis, I thought to myself as I followed Coach Arrow's scent which seemed to smell like wet dog. Why wet dog though, wendigos smell like death what is this. Following the scent to a restroom on the second floor, I opened the door as the lights seemed to have flickered, taking only a couple steps forward a large claw was around my neck as I was lifted into the air, staring directly into the eyes of a giant dog like creature. No a wolf he was a wolf he couldn't be a werewolf, am I seeing this correctly, he dropped me as he stood in the way of the exit backhanding me into a stall wall causing it to dent. 

"I have a message to give you young Kodiak from your dearest friend my master," he said with a chilling raspy deep voice. I was coughing as he spoke unable to speak or even focus sitting up I caught my breathing. "He gives you applause for trying to keep him monitored though you figured he wouldn't find out about your so called spies," he threw a bloody hand that had the ring of Dr. King, his wedding band. "Now you can either surrender to save them and work for my master or you can die along with them your choice,"

Growing the fear of their death and the anger of hatred toward these creatures, it was unnatural and it was disgusting to me how they could cause human deaths and be okay with it. I could feel myself getting hotter as I began to growl and standing up I roared before I even shifted, Coach Arrow was prepared for that as he jumped tackling me through the window we landed on a bus that was nearby. Throwing me through the emergency exit door and skidding through the ground hitting a nearby tree. My shoulder was dislocated as I struggled to get up I could see Coach Arrow running at me, closing my eyes accepting this fate I heard a screech as Selena soared through the air clawing at one of the Arrow's eyes I tried to get up until Brooke came and gestured her head for me to get on her back. Climbing atop to ride away I could see Selena, Austin and Henry fighting off Arrow as me and Brooke headed back to my house. Sneaking in both of us made it through the house into her room. 

She looked me in my eyes as I began to speak, "How did you...." CRACK! I groaned silently biting a pillow as she popped my shoulder back into place.

"Well we heard you roar, honestly the whole school heard you roar they were keeping kids inside when we snuck out to let the bear roam off," she said as I could hear Austin and the others come into the room. Selena came over to check on me though she looked worried she made it seem like she was just doing me a favor. 

"Well now I guess we have a werewolf to worry about, which it's Coach Arrow," I said as I struggled to sit up on the bed.

"I knew that asshole wasn't human he was too built and plus...," Henry said before I cut him off.

"Also he said he had Brooke's parents," we all looked to Brooke who took a few steps back as she began to try and call her parents.

"He was lying, he's a fucking liar I just spoke with them yesterday you guys heard them," the dial tone could be heard as it was getting straight to voicemail.

"He wasn't lying Brooke he showed me proof they cut off your dad's hand the one with his wedding ring on it, I could smell the blood it was definitely his," I said as I tried to get up out of the bed. Selena put her hand on my shoulder for me to stay down for a bit. She walked over to Brooke and gave her a hug as she began to cry.

"What did he want then why show us proof and then try to kill you," Austin said as he looked over to me.

"I don't know I don't think he was trying to kill me but he wanted to prove a point they want us to surrender and work for Blackstone that's all he told me before he threw me out the window," I said looking over to him.

"Well that's not going to happen alright we need to come up with a plan to get back Brooke's parents and end this whole thing trust me Brooke we are getting them back alive I can promise you that," Austin said as he tried not to cry leaving us in the room he headed back to his. Me and Henry walked over to Brooke holding her through the night as she cried.
