Sirens"How much further?" I asked looking out the window "we should be there soon" the police women said focusing on the road. We were speeding down a long road with the lights and sirens ringing loud. I turned around, there was a cop car also behind us coming for back up. We didn't know what we could be walking into.
We were so far away. It was so secluded and quiet. I felt nervous and excited butterflies in my stomach and throat knowing we'd be there soon and I'd see my baby again. But also I was petrified, what if she wasn't there? What if she didn't even want to come with me because she wanted to be with her real mum? "Are you okay ma'am?" The officer sitting next to me asked placing a hand on my shoulder "I think I might throw up" I groaned "here, do it in this. We're not judging" the officer in the front seat passed me a bag.
I leaned back into the seat. I couldn't wait for this all to be over, I'd been constantly sick ever since I found the bed empty.."Alright let's move in" the officer shouted as they all jumped out the car. I jumped out too, not being able to just sit here and wait. I looked around, this is where she's been all this time? It was so empty and bland apart from a big tree that shadowed over the small broken down trailer with black tinted windows. "no ma'am it's not safe, you wait in the car" a police women instructed. I stood still for a minute then when they weren't looking I chased after them. No way was I going to just stand here and wait. I stood back and watched "police open up!" They shouted. No response "we're gonna brake down the door if you don't open up" they shouted again. I felt a little frightened by their intimating shouts. Everyone stood back as one police man kicked the door down in three hits. Everyone rushed into the trailer yelling out stuff. I ran in close behind them looked around "Hayley?" I called out. I ran into another room "Hayley?" I scanned the room and looked down. I let out a panicked gasp as I saw a women laying on the ground "ma'am your not supposed to be in here" a officer said grabbing my arm "that's her, that's Maria Walker" I said standing frozen. The officer loosened their grip then bent down and put his fingers on her neck "there's a pulse she's still alive... Get an ambulance on the way!" He shouted out to the other officers "what about Hayley did you find Hayley?" I cried frantically "we've completely searched the premises... she's not here" a police women said to me sympathetically.
The world spun around me, I couldn't breathe. Was she really gone? Was this really the end? I'll never see her again. I started hyperventilating.
"Demi? It's okay. Calm down" her voice sounded distant as she stood in front of me trying to calm me down."Where's my daughter?" I turned around to see Maria sitting up groggily "she's drunk" an officer announced helping her off the floor and onto a ripped up old yellow sofa "no. Where's MY daughter" I shouted as I marched over to her with my fists balled "hey hey" a officer stepped in front of me "you have no idea what this evil women has done to that little girl!" I shouted "I know I read the files" the lady officer said quietly in my ear as she stood next to me "oh.. you must be Demi" she said in a low tone voice. I looked at her surprised. Hayley must have mentioned me which means she surly knew I was Hayley's legal Mother "she's my daughter. I birthed her and raised her" I wanted to march up to her and slap her over and over till her face turned blue "ok that's not what's important right now. Where is she?" A male officer asked sternly. Maria scratched her head and took a minute to think "I think she left" she said "left? Left when? Where did she go?" The lady officer asked in a more kind tone "I don't know" she said in a duh tone "so she was here?" I asked "yes. But she doesn't want to be with you. She told me she hates you and hopes she never sees you again" she spat at me while she stayed seated on the couch and slightly rocked back and forth, she looked completely hung over. Hearing that was like a knife in my heart "why would she say that?" I said more saying my thoughts out loud not really looking for an answer "because you said you didn't want her anymore, I asked you everyday to come visit and you said you didn't want to" she replied slowly as she lit up a stinky cigarette "what? That never happened! Do you have any idea what I've been through the last week!" I screamed. I'd never spoken to this women other then when she showed up uninvited at Hayley's birthday, if I'd gotten a call to come see Hayley I would've been here in 5 minutes "no, but that's what I told her" she smiled evilly taking a puff of her smoke. I looked at her furiously, so all this time Hayley's been here Maria's been feeding her terrible lies about me "you stupid bitch!" I shouted as I lunged for her. Two police man quickly grabbed me and held me back "that's enough" they shouted as they dragged me outside "you guys arrest her and throw her in the back of the car, we'll set out a search party for the girl" the police shouted then turned to me "I understand the situation your in. It's only one road, if we didn't see Hayley on the way, then she's gone the other way. I'm confident we'll find her"
"Okay. Yeah your right let's go" I sniffed and frantically ran towards the car with the officers following not far behind.
