Telephone boothHere I am again, aimlessly driving around sick to my stomach trying to find my daughter. All I could do was prey I'd find her safe and soon. It was dark and I knew she was hurt somewhere. There was search parties but no luck so far.
I spotted a man walking down the street with his hands in his pockets. I sighed and pulled over "excuse me! Hi. excuse me" I called out jumping out of the car waving my arm about to get his attention. He turned to me and smiled politely "have you seen this girl?" I asked showing him a photo of Hayley on my phone. He carefully inspected the photo "ah yes. I did. Are you her Mum?" He asked "yes. Yes I am" "she said she was going to call you. At the phone booth" he said scratching his head "where? Where was the phone booth?" I asked a little frantically "uhhh.. um" he looked a little flustered "oh! Yes it's about a 30 minute walk. Take the next left.. then the second right... keep going straight and the phone booth should be on your left" he said "next left, second right, on the left" I repeated "thank you so much!" I called out as I ran back to my car.
I took a left, then the second right. I kept going straight and kept a lookout for a telephone booth on the left side "come on" I muttered to myself as I scanned the side walk
HOOOOOONNNKKKK
I slammed my foot on the breaks and swerved. I looked up, putting my hands on my chest as I processed what just happened "omg I'm so sorry" I called out through my window as the car I almost crashed into past me giving me a dirty look. I sunk into the seat feeling a little guilty. I wasnt paying attention to the road I was so focused on finding Hayley on the side walk. I needed a minute to calm myself down, I felt a little shaken up. That was all my fault. I'm just so stressed and worried. I took a deep breath and continued driving. This time slower and I paid more attention "Hayley?" I called out the window as I drove.
I squinted my eyes and saw a telephone booth just up the road. I let out a hopeful gasp and sped down the road towards it. I parked the car and jumped out looking around "Hayley?" I called out jogging over to the telephone box. I was out of breath, mostly because of nerves. I panted as I looked around. It was really dark out and there weren't many streets lights but as I stepped into the phone booth the light switched on. It must've been a motion sensor. I noticed something small and plastic on the ground, I bent down to pick it up. Upon further inspection I realised it was Hayley's hospital band. She was here, This was the phone booth she called me from. she couldn't be far. Still holding the hospital band I ran out into the darkness "Hayley!" I called out louder then I ever have before.
If she wasn't here then I wouldn't know where else to look.My breathing was heavy and fast, I heard quiet groans so I held my breath and stayed as quiet as I could. They continued and I followed where it was coming from. I turned my phone flashlight on and saw someone laying on the ground "oh my gosh" I cried and I ran over. I knew it had to be Hayley. I dropped to my knees and gently shook her "..Demi?" She whispered softly. I sighed of relief that she was okay.. well as okay as she could be.. "how do you always find me?" She smiled groggily in a joking manner.
"Hayley-" I didn't even know what to say. She winced in pain, holding her shoulder as she struggled to sit up. I placed my hand behind her back to support her "are you okay?" I asked "no. I'm in a lot of pain" she cried "ok. Ok it's okay, we can get you to the hospital" I said trying to stay calm "no way. I'm not going to the hospital" she grunted. I sighed "hunny. It'll be okay" I tried to reassure her but I could see how scared she was. I looked at her with a serious expression "I promise" it took a minute but I was eventually able to help her off the ground and we slowly walked to the car "ow" she cried out and almost dropped to her knees but I caught her "I'm so sorry. I know it hurts" I said sadly. I could tell she was in a lot of pain "where's the car?" She asked "just a little further up" I said pointing to the car in the distance "Demi. I can't.. I'm gonna pass out again..." she panted. I looked at her and could tell she was telling the truth. I didn't want to leave Hayley alone even for 30 seconds but it didn't look like I had a choice "ok. Ok. Just stay here" I said frantically. I handed her my phone and jogged over to the car, driving it up next to Hayley then helping her get in.
