Waylen was a hard-nosed business owner, running a high-end luxury car dealership known for its exclusivity and precision. His reputation preceded him, a man known for his cold, stern demeanor. Workers often whispered about him in hushed tones, sharing rumors that he had once physically thrown a disgruntled employee out for slacking on the job. While no one had ever seen it firsthand, the fear it instilled was enough to keep everyone on their toes.

One day, Eryx, a new hire fresh out of orientation, lost a bet with the other workers. As a result, he was tasked with delivering Waylen's morning coffee to his office—a task none of them ever volunteered for. It wasn't the coffee that worried him; it was the thought of facing Waylen directly.

Trembling slightly, Eryx took a deep breath as he approached the polished mahogany door of Waylen's office, the intimidating gold plaque gleaming under the fluorescent lights. He gently knocked, barely making a sound, but decided to push the door open anyway. His palms were clammy, and he swallowed hard, trying to keep his nerves at bay.

"G...good morning, sir!" Eryx managed, fighting the urge to stutter as he stepped into the room, holding the coffee cup with both hands like a peace offering.

"Mmm." Waylen grunted noncommittally, turning fully to face Eryx, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "You're the new blood, aren't you? What brings you to my den?" He raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued at the sight of Eryx's nervousness.

Eryx's grip tightened around the coffee mug, knuckles turning white. He swallowed hard, trying to dislodge the lump in his throat. "Y...Yes, sir. I'm Eryx." He paused, licking dry lips, "I-I brought your coffee, sir."

"Ah," Waylen said, his voice smooth as silk as he took a slow step forward, eyes raking over Eryx. "So, you're the one who drew the short straw... Or perhaps they thought I wouldn't bite today?" Waylen's hazel eyes glinted with amusement as he took the coffee cup from Eryx's shaking hands, his fingers brushing lightly against the younger man's skin, savoring the sudden jolt that went through him.

Eryx's eyes widened slightly, his breath hitching as Waylen's fingers brushed against his. He quickly looked away, his cheeks flushing a soft shade of pink. "N...No, sir. They just thought... they thought I needed to get some courage, uh, face-to-face interaction,"

Waylen chuckled, dark eyes dancing with mirth, taking a sip of coffee, his mind working to decipher the young man's reaction. "Courage, huh?" Waylen hummed, setting the coffee cup down on his desk and leaning against it, crossing his arms over his broad chest. "Well, Eryx, you've made it past the threshold. Now, tell me, why do you think they chose you?"

Eryx swallowed hard, his heart pounding in his chest. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt, his gaze flicking around the room before settling back on Waylen. "I...I guess they thought I was... quiet. And that I wouldn't be too much of a distraction."

"Quiet, hm?" Waylen mused, stepping closer, invading Eryx's personal space intentionally, his voice dropping to a low rumble, "Maybe they thought you were the safest bet, then?" He studied Eryx closely, noticing every little twitch and shift in posture, the way his eyes kept darting towards Waylen's lips and then quickly away.

Eryx's breath caught in his throat, Waylen's proximity unnerving him. He tried to hold his gaze, but his eyes kept flicking down to Waylen's mouth, only to jerk back up to meet his intense stare. "Y...Yes, sir... I...I suppose so."

A knowing smirk curved Waylen's lips, enjoying Eryx's discomfort as he leaned closer still, breathing in the faint scent of sweat mixed with cologne, his hazel eyes boring into the younger man's soul. "Good to know you understand your place here, Eryx." He whispered huskily, his warm breath fanning across Eryx's face before he turned and walked back to his desk, leaving Eryx to stand awkwardly in the center of the room, unsure if he should leave or stay.
