A sharp knock rattled the door, followed by a familiar drawl.

"Hey, let me in. I'm outside with your favorite pizza."

Kiernan blinked at his phone screen, then at the door. The name Colt flashed in his notifications. It had been a while since they'd last talked-months, maybe a year. And now he was here? With pizza?

Heart pounding, Kiernan padded to the door and pulled it open.

There he was.

Colt stood on the doorstep, cowboy hat tilted slightly, smirking like he hadn't just disappeared out of Kiernan's life for so long. The warm glow of the porch light caught the edges of his scruffy jawline and the slight highlights in his brown hair. He smelled like leather, pine, and the crisp night air. In one hand, he held a pizza box, the steam curling up from the sides.

Kiernan crossed his arms, leveling him with a look. "You just show up at my place after all this time? No warning?"

Colt's smirk softened into something more genuine. "Figured pizza was the best peace offering. Plus... I missed you, sugar."

The nickname sent a spark down Kiernan's spine, and he quickly turned away to let Colt in. His apartment was warm and cozy, the scent of vanilla candles filling the air.

Colt set the pizza down on the coffee table, taking in the space like he was committing it to memory. "You look good, Kier."

Kiernan sat down, trying to ignore the way his stomach flipped. "You too. So, what brings you here?"

Colt leaned back, stretching an arm along the couch. "Been thinking about you lately. Rodeo season's been busy, but it felt wrong not seeing you. So, I figured-why not just show up?"

Kiernan scoffed but couldn't fight the small smile forming. He opened the pizza box, the aroma of melted cheese and pepperoni wafting up. "Fine. But you owe me an explanation after we eat."

They fell into easy conversation, the tension from earlier fading as they bantered and laughed between bites. Colt still had that cocky charm, but his gaze on Kiernan felt softer, more intent.

At some point, the movie they had put on became background noise. Colt shifted closer, their knees brushing.

"Missed this," Colt murmured, voice lower now. His fingers traced a light pattern on Kiernan's wrist.

Kiernan swallowed, suddenly hyperaware of the warmth of Colt's body, the way his breath ghosted over his skin. "Colt..."

"Yeah?"

Kiernan hesitated, but then Colt's hand was tilting his chin up, eyes searching his. The space between them disappeared as Colt leaned in, lips brushing over Kiernan's in the lightest tease of a kiss.

Kiernan exhaled shakily, and that was all Colt needed. The second kiss was deeper, slower, his hands sliding to Kiernan's waist, pulling him in. Kiernan melted into it, fingers gripping the front of Colt's denim shirt.

By the time they pulled away, foreheads touching, Kiernan's cheeks were flushed.

Colt grinned. "So... does this mean I get to stay?"

Kiernan rolled his eyes, but the smile on his lips betrayed him. "Shut up and kiss me again."

And Colt happily obliged.

Kiernan barely had time to breathe before Colt's lips were back on his, claiming and warm, tasting like pizza and something uniquely him. Colt moved slow, deliberate, like he had all the time in the world to savor this moment. His hands slid to Kiernan's waist, fingers gripping just tight enough to make Kiernan shiver.
